Accident Details
According to local news reports, the young rider was thrown some 50 feet from his motorcycle on the afternoon of Saturday, October 7 around 2pm. The accident occurred in the 600 block of North Main Street near Argonaut Street in Manteca. The motorcycle was involved in a crash with a sedan. The force of the crash not only threw the rider from the bike but also demolished the motorcycle, which was a late-model sports bike.
Debris was scattered all across the road and the bike came to a stop against a curb on the northbound side of the street. The motorcycle rider was placed on a stretcher by firefighters and paramedics who responded to the crash. An ambulance from the Manteca District Ambulance squad transported the rider to a local trauma center for care.
Accident Investigation Results
The vehicle involved in the accident was forcefully knocked in reverse into the intersection. Both of the car’s airbags deployed and the force of the accident shattered the windshield. Fire trucks and police cars were used to block the road as officers investigated the crash. Officers from the Manteca Police Department interviewed multiple witnesses of the crash in an effort to determine which vehicle was traveling in which direction and how the crash started.
According to police, the rider of the motorcycle was listed in stable condition as of 7pm on Saturday night with multiple injuries. The investigating officers said that the motorcycle was traveling south on North Main Street when a vehicle that was struck pulled out in front of the bike. The road was closed for more than two hours as officers conducted their investigation into what they called a major injury crash.
How to Avoid Common Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycle accidents are all too common on the roads of California. Some common motorcycle accidents include vehicle turning left in front of you, vehicle veering into your lane, and vehicles slamming into your bike from behind at an intersection.
To avoid a vehicle turning left in front of you, be sure to make eye contact with the driver of the other vehicle, slow down so you can stop at a moment’s notice, and learn evasive maneuvers.
To avoid a vehicle veering into your lane, do not drive in the blind spots of other vehicles and leave room for them to move into your lane either in front or behind you by slowing down or speeding up.
To avoid getting hit from behind at an intersection you should pull up to the first car, make eye contact and give a friendly wave and then move in front of that car to create a buffer zone.
