Pedestrian Involved in Major Injury Accident on West Elkhorn Boulevard
An August 2 major injury accident occurred in Rio Linda that involved two vehicles and ended up hospitalizing a pedestrian. The collision happened at the West Elkhorn Boulevard intersection with Marysville Boulevard around 9:00 p.m., as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). In order to determine why the two vehicles collided and what caused the pedestrian to be injured, CHP traffic investigators are examining the accident.
How a Two-Vehicle Accident Can End Up Injuring a Pedestrian
Unfortunately, auto accidents don’t just happen between two vehicles. Pedestrians can often be put in danger when two cars collide on the road. A pedestrian can end up injured even if they are not directly involved in the accident, due to debris from the crash or other hazards. The following are some of the ways that a two-vehicle accident could injure a pedestrian:
- Flying debris: The force of the impact from a two-vehicle crash can cause small pieces of debris to fly through the air, and this could potentially hit a bystander. This type of injury is often minor, but it can be serious depending on what kind of object is flung and at what speed.
- Loss of control: One car could spin out of control after a crash, and this could directly hit someone on the sidewalk. This is very dangerous, as it can lead to significant injuries or even death.
- Secondary collision: Another vehicle may swerve to miss the two colliding cars and end up striking a pedestrian instead. This type of accident often occurs if the pedestrian is walking too close to the road and doesn’t have enough time to get away.
- Falling objects: If a car or truck crashes, items that are in its cargo can be thrown from the vehicle and this can lead to injuries for pedestrians nearby. This is especially true if the object is heavy or sharp.
