Ripon Man Killed in Highway 99 Motorcycle Accident

A Ripon man was killed after a motorcycle accident on Highway 99 on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 22, 2020. The motorcycle crash occurred on northbound Highway 99 just south of Main Street in the city of Ripon. A man was riding a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle when, for unknown reasons, he lost control, and his bike fell onto its side. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the motorcyclist reportedly slid under the trailer of a Freightliner big rig. Sadly, he passed away at the scene. The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased motorcycle rider as 20-year-old Jonathan Williams of Ripon.

Loss of a Loved One to Wrongful Death

The losses suffered by surviving family members after the unexpected death of a loved one can affect every aspect of their lives. This is especially true if the death was caused by the careless or negligent acts of another in a motorcycle vs. truck accident. Naturally, the emotional grief from the loss is the primary concern. However, survivors also need to consider how they will pay for end of life medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, and what impact their loved one’s death will have on their finances in the future. In cases where the family member was the breadwinner of the household, the loss can devastate the family they leave behind. No family should have to bear the damages caused by the negligence and carelessness of someone else. A Ripon wrongful death attorney may be able to help families obtain justice during this difficult time and work to determine if they have the grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit. An attorney will also take all necessary steps to protect the legal rights and best interests of survivors.

What Can Be Recovered in a Fatal Highway 99 Motorcycle Accident Case?

Every death in the family is a painful experience. While many are from natural causes, others could have been prevented had negligent parties exercised the due care they owed to the decedent. A wrongful death claim in California is appropriate if the recklessness or negligence of someone else caused a loved one’s wrongful death. Seeking justice and compensation could help provide the comfort and financial security a family needs in their time of loss. Successful cases may bring payments for the following economic and non-economic damages:

  • Costs of medical treatment or hospitalization needed to treat the decedent’s final injury related to the fatal motorcycle accident
  • Expenses related to a loved one’s funeral and burial service
  • Lost companionship, affection, and protection
  • Monetary losses that survivors suffer as a result of not having the decedent in the family. This may include loss of future financial support, benefits, and services provided by the loved one to the family.
  • Punitive damages may be awarded by a jury in some wrongful death motorcycle accident cases involving egregious conduct on the part of the at-fault party, such as excessive speeding or drunk driving. Punitive damages are directly sought from the negligent driver and not their insurance company.
