Man Stabbed by Road Rage Driver in Roseville
A December 23, 2019, incident that happened around noon may have stemmed from road rage. It resulted in a stabbing in Roseville close to Westgate Galleria mall. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that two drivers, one in a Jeep and the other in a Ford F-150 pickup, got into an argument along northbound Highway 65. Both drivers ended up pulling over at the Lincoln Boulevard exit ramp, where the argument continued. According to the report, the driver of the pickup, age 36, then exited his vehicle and stabbed the Lincoln man, who was driving the Jeep, in his stomach. The pickup driver remained at the scene of the altercation, and the man who was stabbed was transported to a nearby hospital with what was reported as a major injury. An investigation is being conducted by CHP officers to discover why the incident occurred. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs was a factor.
Additional Details of the Incident
The wife of the injured man said that her husband “wasn’t doing very well.” The pickup driver was placed under arrest on charges of attempted murder and taken to the jail in Auburn. He is not eligible for bail. The truck the arrested man was driving was found at a Roseville home in the driveway.
What to Do If You’re Confronted With Road Rage
Road rage is an angry behavior that can turn aggressive. A driver with road rage may make obscene gestures, yell or make threats. Some drivers may exhibit road rage by tailgating, cutting close to or in front of another car to make another driver swerve or slam on the brakes. In extreme cases, the person with road rage may pull a gun or even force another motorist off the road. When confronted by someone with road rage, you should:
- Ensure the doors are locked in your vehicle.
- Do not react or try to engage the other aggressive driver. This can escalate into a dangerous situation.
- Do not make eye contact with the angry driver. This is another action that can escalate the situation.
- If you feel threatened, you should contact the police to advise them of the problem. They will either explain what to do or send a patrol car to help.
- Stay calm and attempt to move out of the road rage driver’s way.
- Do not head for home. A driver with road rage may follow you, even to your own door. Instead, pull off to an area where a lot of other people are around, such as a mall parking lot. Even better, if you know where the nearest police station is, you should head there.
- If you can, note information about the enraged driver and their vehicle such as the make, model, and license plate number. Report this information to the police.
How a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help
When a driver is injured or traumatized by someone exhibiting road rage, they have the right to be compensated for the financial damages this behavior caused. This includes medical bills, lost wages, rehabilitation, and pain and suffering. At our law firm, we dispatch our investigators to the accident site to determine how and why the incident happened. They delve into the course of events that may lead up to an assault, as in the case above. Our investigators also speak with witnesses who provide valuable information and obtain videos of the incident from traffic surveillance and other cameras. Once all evidence of intentional negligence is gathered, the investigative team brings it to our lawyers who use it in constructing a strong case against the enraged driver.
