Vehicle Ends Up on its Roof Following Single-Vehicle Accident

A rollover accident was reported in Sacramento in a single-vehicle collision on January 23, which resulted in injuries. The incident occurred along Interstate 5 northbound near the westbound Florin Road entrance ramp around 11:40 in the morning, according to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). When police arrived, they discovered that a Toyota Corolla had overturned and was on its roof.

Rollover Accident Under Investigation to Determine Cause

The CHP is investigating what caused the single-vehicle rollover accident to determine how it happened; however, the entrance ramp had to be shut down, and traffic diverted until it could be reopened at around 12:20 p.m. No additional information was added about the injuries to those inside the vehicle.

The Dangers of a Rollover

A rollover accident is one of the most serious because of the injuries it can cause as well as the increased risk of fatalities. Some of the reasons a rollover is so dangerous include:

  • Because the parties inside the vehicle are tossed around, they may strike against the dash, metal parts of the vehicle, or roof, which can result in serious injuries.
  • Parties inside the vehicle can be ejected during a rollover, which carries a high rate of fatalities. Even if the parties inside the vehicle are wearing restraints, if they are defective and break, they can be ejected. Those who are injured because of a defective seat belt can hold the manufacturer, designer, and others liable for damages.
  • If the roof and supporting structures are not strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle, roof crush can occur. Because manufacturers are held to standards with regard to roof strength, if the top of the vehicle caves in during a rollover, they may be held responsible through an auto product liability lawsuit.
  • If the airbags are defective and do not deploy during a rollover crash, the manufacturer can be held liable once again.

How a Rollover Crash Is Investigated

In order to obtain compensation following a rollover accident, it must be determined why it happened. This is where our investigative team comes in. They immediately head to the crash site to search for the evidence required to support a client’s compensation claim, such as:

  • The vehicle is inspected for defects that could have caused the roof crush, a snapped seat belt, or undeployed airbags. It is also inspected to see if another type of auto defect caused the rollover accident. This is why it is vitally important to retain the vehicle following a collision.
  • The police report is checked for errors, and witnesses to the rollover accident are interviewed.
  • Video footage is sought from nearby road and traffic cameras.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which can indicate the path the vehicle took and how it ended up in its final resting place. This evidence is widely used both in court cases and by insurance companies.

Once the evidence has all been compiled, our injury attorneys use it to construct a strong case that benefits our client.
