Eureka Rollover Causes Serious Injuries
On Monday, December 9, 2019, a Eureka rollover left one person with serious injuries. According to information reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash happened on the Highway 101 safety corridor and involved two vehicles. The vehicles included a white SUV and a U.S. Post Office mail truck. Updates on the condition of the seriously injured individual have not been reported, and the crash is still under investigation.
Crash Details
The crash happened at about 6:20 p.m. on Highway 101 at the Indianola cutoff. The SUV was heading north on the highway when the mail truck attempted to perform a left-hand turn in order to enter the southbound lanes of 101. The mail truck reportedly entered the path of the SUV as it traveled onto the highway, and the two vehicles collided.
The impact severely damaged the front end of the SUV and caused it to overturn, eventually coming to a rest in a grassy area on the side of the highway. The mail truck was also damaged during the accident but did not overturn.
Response
Responders arriving at the collision site discovered two people inside the SUV. The front passenger was found with serious injuries, including head lacerations, and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for emergency care. Reports indicated that the driver appeared uninjured. CHP stated that the mail truck driver was also not injured during the crash but that his vehicle had to be towed from the crash site.
Rollover Accidents
Rollovers are very dangerous and leave people with serious injuries more often than other kinds of accidents. One of the key reasons that this is the case is because vehicle roofs are often not strong enough to keep occupants safe. These situations are especially common with heavier vehicles like SUVs and can be the cause of very serious injuries. When this happens, vehicle occupants can suffer roof crush injuries that otherwise could have been avoided.
Vehicle manufacturers are expected to ensure the safety of their products. For this reason, these companies are often considered negligent and can be financially liable for accident damages after rollover accidents.
Government Entities and Injury Cases
After being involved in a crash with a government vehicle, it’s important to get in touch with an attorney as soon as you can. Injury claims that involve a government entity can be complicated and have a shorter time-frame for filing. To learn more about dealing with an accident involving a government vehicle, it’s best to speak personally with an expert attorney. Once you have the advice you need, you can move forward with claiming payments for your hospital bills, lost income, property damage, and more.
