Rollover on Elkhorn Boulevard Causes Two Injuries
A rollover crash occurred in Rio Linda on December 3 when the driver of a vehicle swerved to avoid another car coming toward it. The accident happened at Elkhorn and Rio Linda boulevards around 3:15 in the morning. According to the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the car was moving south on Elkhorn Boulevard when the rollover occurred.
Additional Information About the Rollover Crash
The vehicle was found by officers in the parking lot after it had rolled, crashed through some trees, and severely damaged a light pole. Two patients were transported by emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The CHP has not ruled out alcohol consumption as a factor that helped cause the crash.
Asking a Lawyer for Advice Following an Accident Injury
Anytime a vehicle becomes unbalanced, it can experience a rollover, which is one of the most dangerous types of collisions. Besides being tossed around inside the vehicle, the driver and passengers may be ejected, which is frequently fatal. SUVs, light trucks, and vans most commonly experience a rollover.
Causes of a Rollover Crash
Any vehicle can roll if they are struck just right or hit soft dirt or a guardrail. Since negligence must be involved for an injured person to make a claim for their injuries, it’s important to enlist the aid of an injury attorney to obtain the compensation that you deserve. Some ways that a rollover is caused include:
- Making an emergency maneuver to avoid a collision can lead to a rollover crash.
- Speeding can cause a rollover crash if the vehicle is going around a tight curve.
- Distracted driving can lead to a rollover and is a common cause of an emergency maneuver if the vehicle drifts over the line or into another lane.
- Drunk or drugged driving leads to many types of accidents. This is because the driver has poor reflexes and vision and lacks judgment.
- A driver who makes a risky turn at an intersection can become involved in a rollover crash if their vehicle is struck in the side in a T-bone collision.
- Mechanical problems can lead to a rollover, such as a brake defect, problems with the accelerator, steering, or engine. When a defect in an auto causes an accident injury, the designer, manufacturer, and others may be held financially responsible through a product liability lawsuit.
- Government negligence can cause a rollover at times. Since a government entity is responsible for the maintenance of the roadways, a weakened or old guardrail, soft shoulders, potholes, and other problems can result in a rollover crash.
Crushed Roof in Rollovers
In some rollovers, the roof of the vehicle caves in, which causes further injuries to those inside. Manufacturers are required to design vehicle roofs that can withstand three times their own weight in the roof area. Unfortunately, not all of them do, and a weak roof can cause traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, and other trauma.
Because vehicle defects can play a role in accident injuries, it is important for the damaged car or truck to be retained, so investigators can check for roof crush and other auto defects. If the individual was injured due to an auto defect, they may place a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer and others in the production line.
