Coach’s Home Sports Business Allegedly Used to Sexually Abuse Children
A wrestling coach with a home business in Roseville was placed under arrest and faces alleged sexual abuse charges that involved committing acts with children under 18. According to the Roseville Police Department, the coach, age 50, was arrested on September 20. The coach in custody was a member of Olympic for Team USA and also operates a training business for sports from his home.
Community Member Contacted Police With Tip
A member of the community reportedly offered a tip, which police investigated. They allegedly discovered multiple young people the coach had abused while they were training with him. The case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office in Placer County on September 15, with the warrant for arrest being served on that date.
Investigation Leads to Arrest
The charges against the coach include lewd and lascivious acts with a minor. A Roseville Police Department spokesperson said that when coaches in the area betrayed the community’s trust, they had to be held accountable.
Watch for Signs of Sexual Abuse in Children
As a parent, it is important to be aware of the signs of sexual abuse in children. Unfortunately, some people with authority take advantage of their position of power and use it to sexually abuse children. Being abused sexually can cause not only physical harm but emotional trauma that requires extensive professional treatment. If your child has been sexually abused, you may be wondering how you can get compensation for what happened, so you can help your child move forward and cope with what happened to them.
Recovering Compensation in an Sexual Abuse Case
There are a few different ways that a lawyer can help you get compensation for your child’s sexual abuse. First, you may be able to file a civil lawsuit against the coach. This type of lawsuit allows you to seek damages for your child’s pain and suffering, as well as any medical expenses that were incurred as a result of the abuse.
You may also be able to file a criminal complaint against the coach. This is a more serious type of complaint, and it can result in the coach being arrested and charged with a crime. If the coach is convicted, he or she may be required to register as a sex offender.
Finally, you may be able to file a complaint with the employer of whoever caused the abuse if it happened on business or government property. If the teacher or coach is employed by a school or other organization, there may be policies in place that protect children from sexual abuse.
