Run Off Road Accident Causes Injury
I’m Ed Smith, a Thousand Oaks car accident lawyer. A crash in nearby Moorpark on Saturday, June 10, caused moderate injuries to one person after the driver struck a tree. The accident crushed the front of the car and buckled the hood.
My prayers and sympathy are with the injured person with the hope that recovery will happen quickly.
What Happened?
Details are sketchy about the accident, which occurred at Tierra Rejada Road, close to Walnut Creek, shortly after 3:30 in the afternoon. A representative of the Sheriff’s Office in Ventura County reported that the reason the vehicle had left the road and crashed into a tree was unknown at this time. A rescue crew from the fire department for Ventura County was needed to extricate the injured person from the vehicle. Afterward, the victim of the car crash was transported to a Moorpark Hospital. Reportedly, the injuries suffered didn’t appear threatening to the person’s life.
Crashes Involving Run-Off Road
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Board, single-vehicle crashes accounted for 64.4 percent of all run-off-road accidents in 2011. According to their statistics, 14.3 percent of the accidents were attributed to internal distraction, 13.6 percent to overcompensation, 12 percent to poor directional control, 10.5 percent to taking a curve too fast and 9.8 percent to falling asleep behind the wheel. Some other causes were mechanical problems with the number one reason being brake failure or degraded brakes, tire failure/degradation and steering/transmission/engine/suspension problems.
Symptoms of Injury Following a Car Accident
Because of the adrenaline that rushes through the body following a car accident, the victim may feel little or no pain at the time. However, seeing a doctor is a good idea because symptoms can be delayed. Some symptoms that can be delayed include headaches, stiffness or pain in the neck, shoulder or back, numbness and swelling or pain in the abdomen. Traumatic brain injury may present as impaired memory or thinking, hearing or vision problems, depression and changes in personality, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other symptoms may be psychological and include sleepless nights, nightmares and flashbacks. Seeing a physician following an accident helps if any delayed symptoms arise later that require treatment. Once you have sought medical attention, contact an injury lawyer for further assistance.
