State Route 99 Sacramento Accident
A Sacramento accident with injuries was reported on December 5 along State Route 99 northbound just south of the westbound Florin Road off-ramp. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident, which occurred shortly after 5:30 in the afternoon, involved a Nissan Versa and white pickup truck. After the collision, the number one lane was blocked while emergency medical personnel arrived to assess the injuries. At least one of the vehicles collided with a guardrail following the initial collision. Two flatbed tow trucks arrived at the accident scene to remove both vehicles. One individual was transported to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center by emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department with reported rib injuries. The extent of the person’s injuries has yet to be reported at this time.
Causes of Chest Injuries in an Accident
Trauma to the chest following a Sacramento accident is common, and symptoms can be mild to severe. Injuries may range from bruising and abrasions to rib fractures or injuries to the organs or upper abdomen. Many of these injuries are caused by the seat belt or airbag. A seat belt may also be defective due to a manufacturing error, poor assembly, or design defect. When a defective seat belt is involved, it may give way during the impact of a collision, leading to serious injuries. In cases where a defective seat belt is involved, the injured person may place a claim against the manufacturer and others to recover medical costs, time away from work, and other expenses.
Types of Chest Injuries
A motorist or passenger in a vehicle who suffers a chest injury may have pain or trouble breathing. Either one means that the injured person should seek medical attention to ensure that it is nothing serious. Some of the medical problems that could cause pain in the chest area or breathing difficulties following a traffic collision include:
- The ribs have been cracked or broken by the shoulder belt or airbag.
- A lung has been bruised or punctured by a rib, which is usually caused by the shoulder belt.
- Contusion or other damage to the heart has occurred.
- Damage to an artery has occurred, which can include bruising or a tear.
- The trachea has been damaged or partially crushed by the seat belt.
- The sternum is fractured, which is one of the most common medical problems in a Sacramento accident.
- Injuries of the spleen, kidneys, or liver have been caused by the seat belt or shoulder strap.
Seeking Help From a Lawyer
Personal injury lawyers help injured people obtain the compensation they deserve when they have been harmed through the negligence of another individual or entity. This is done by investigating the case to provide strong evidence that supports their client’s claim. Our investigators head out right away to the Sacramento accident site because evidence can be lost or covered up quickly. They examine the police report for errors and interview witnesses to the accident.
In addition, they may perform accident reconstruction in cases involving multiple vehicles to determine the before and after placement of the cars. This helps to determine which vehicle caused the collision. Traffic surveillance cameras and nearby businesses may have caught the accident on tape, which provides another good source. Once all the information has been gathered, our attorneys go to work building a strong case. This can either be used in a civil court case or when negotiating with the insurance company.
