Multiple Charges Possible Against Sacramento County Middle School Teacher

A teacher in the San Juan Unified School District was arrested recently on alleged charges of child sexual abuse. The 49-year-old middle school teacher was placed under arrest on July 19 following alleged incidents that occurred at his home. The parents of the students reportedly knew their children were there.

Arrested Man Was Teacher at Local Middle School

The teacher was allegedly giving his students marijuana, alcohol, sex toys and pornography at his home. The accused had been teaching since 1996. He taught eighth-grade government and leadership classes at Arden Middle School on Watt Avenue.

Support Services to Students Offered at Arden Middle School

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest and said it is believed that these events occurred between 2019 and 2021 and involved multiple young people. The Sheriff’s Office pointed out that the teacher was not at work for most of the 2021-2022 classes and away on leave. A referral support service is being offered to students at the school in response to the incident.

Arrested Teacher Facing Multiple Sexual Abuse Charges

Charges being faced by the teacher include giving marijuana to a child under 13, molesting a child under 18, committing lascivious or lewd acts with a minor, communication with a minor to commit a sex offense, committing a lewd act on a child when the age difference is more than 10 years and contributing to a minor’s delinquency. The teacher posted $350,000 bail and made his first court appearance on July 20.

When Your Child Has Been Sexually Abused

There are few things worse than the abuse of a child, especially sexually, which leaves them traumatized and steals their innocence at a time when their lives should be happy and carefree. When it happens because the child is left in the care of someone they are supposed to be able to trust, the crime becomes egregious. If this happened to your child, you may be able to place a personal injury claim against the perpetrator and the school if it was negligent in its hiring.

Counseling and Compensation

Children who suffer sexual abuse usually need professional counseling to deal with what happened to them. Sometimes, that counseling takes years. Of course, the person who committed this crime can be held accountable criminally. However, even if they are not convicted, they can be held responsible by filing a personal injury claim in civil court, where the standard of proof isn’t as high. By holding the person responsible, it can give the family some sense of justice for the cruel wrong that happened to their child.
