Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 80
A fatal motorcycle crash on I-80 westbound caused a massive backup on July 1 as the morning commute got underway. The backup extended beyond Truxel Boulevard with only one lane open to westbound traffic. Authorities at the scene asked Caltrans to order a hard closure of that part of the roadway and divert vehicles away from the area. The accident happened near West El Camino Avenue in Sacramento.
The crash, which involved a motorcycle and four other vehicles, happened shortly before 5:00 in the morning in the vicinity of the Capital City Freeway split. The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash. There is no word as yet if other injuries were involved in the fatal motorcycle crash. I would like to offer my sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased.
Ways to Prove Fault in a Chain Reaction Accident
An attorney will prove fault by using the following techniques:
- Reviewing police accounts of the accident and any citations that were issued against a driver
- Obtaining witness contact information
- Observing damage to all vehicles involved in the accident
- Recording accident scene evidence
- Locating videos that capture the accident digitally
- Noting placement of the vehicles after the accident
Determining Fault in a Fatal Motorcycle Crash
An experienced injury attorney has at his or her disposal many investigative techniques used to determine what happened at the accident scene. It is important to distinguish fact from hearsay. That is why the attorney will visit the accident scene. Here, the lawyer can look for additional witnesses, who will be interviewed as the investigation progresses. The attorney will also look for skid marks and use computer driven programs to measure the distance between an initial fatal motorcycle crash and subsequent ones.
Why an Injury Lawyer’s Input Is Important
In any accident, initial collision reports may be erroneous. This can lead to assigning fault to the wrong person. An accident can be caused by multiple factors such as a mechanical breakdown or a defective part. In the case of a motorcycle rider, other drivers may have instigated the crash by not giving the biker enough room or by crowding him or her. In addition, due to the motorcycle’s lack of conspicuity, the biker may be intruded upon by a car in the next lane, causing the casual observer to believe that the biker caused the accident. Hazardous defects in the road may also cause a fatal motorcycle accident. It is vital that a wrongful death be investigated thoroughly to determine if another driver was at fault for the person’s demise.
