Head-On Crash on Stockton Boulevard Traps One Driver Inside Vehicle

A head-on crash between two vehicles occurred in Sacramento on May 18 that resulted in a major injury. The collision occurred around 11:46 a.m. along southbound Stockton Boulevard just south of Orange Avenue. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred between a Pontiac Grand Prix and an SUV.

At Least One Person Taken to Hospital After Stockton Boulevard Head-On Crash

Southbound Stockton Boulevard was blocked by the accident with one lane reopening around 12:33 p.m. The driver of the Pontiac had to be extricated by firefighters with the Sacramento Fire Department. At least one person involved in the collision was transported to a hospital with major injuries. Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage. The head-on collision is being investigated by authorities to determine fault.

Dangers of an Accident Head-On

A head-on collision is one of the most dangerous types of traffic accidents and frequently causes traumatic injuries and fatalities, even at lower speeds. This is because the speeds of both vehicles are combined upon impact since they are both moving. As an example, when a car traveling at 60 mph experiences a frontal collision with another vehicle going 50 mph, the combined speed upon impact is 110 mph. In other words, it’s like crashing at high speed into a concrete wall. Some of the ways in which a head-on crash occurs include:

  • A drunk motorist enters a freeway from the exit ramp, which places the driver in the fast lane going in the wrong direction.
  • A driver is careless when pulling out of a side street and ends up in a head-on collision with an oncoming car.
  • Improper passing can cause a head-on collision because the driver crossed over a double-yellow line or the view ahead was obscured.
  • Speeding means the driver has less control over their vehicle, which makes it easier for that car to cross over into an opposing lane.
  • Fatigued driving can lead to a head-on crash if the driver nods off behind the wheel.

Collection of Evidence to Support a Client’s Injury Claim

Because of the many ways a driver can be negligent and cause a frontal collision, the accident must be investigated to prove fault. The way we do this is by conducting an investigation and gathering the evidence to support a client’s claim. Some of the ways in which we investigate include:

  • The investigators go to the site of the accident to gather evidence from the scene, including taking photographs of the damage to the vehicles.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which shows how the crash happened.
  • Reviewing the police report is an important part of the investigation. It will show what conclusion the police reached as to who was at fault. Once our own investigation is complete, if the report by the police is incorrect, it must be changed because it may prevent our client from claiming compensation.
  • The investigators search for film in nearby surveillance cameras because they provide strong evidence of how the head-on crash occurred and which driver was at fault.
  • Witnesses are interviewed to find corroborating evidence to support the client’s claim.
