Two bicycle riders suffered serious trauma in Sacramento on December 1 when they were struck by a box truck. The collision happened around 6:00 p.m. along Highway 99 close to the off-ramp for Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported both bicyclists as men.

One of the bicycle riders appeared to be in his 30s, and the other in his 40s. They were transported to a hospital and reportedly both in critical condition. The section of the roadway where the men were struck was shut down as an investigation was undertaken by CHP traffic crash officers.
Negligent Motorists and Bicycle Accidents
As a result of their low visibility and vulnerability, bicycle riders are more likely to be struck by negligent drivers. When you suffer a serious injury in a Sacramento highway crash, compensation may be needed to cover your recovery costs. Several factors contribute to these accidents, including driver negligence:
- Speed: The likelihood of a speeding driver hitting a bicyclist increases if they must stop over a longer distance in an emergency situation.
- Impaired driving: Alcohol and drug-impaired driving can cause a driver to have trouble measuring distances, difficulty following their eyes, or display slowed reflexes.
- Red lights: Drivers who run red lights at intersections are often involved in bicycle accidents.
- Crosswalks: When driving through crosswalks, drivers should always be cautious and avoid colliding with bicyclists, even with a green light.
- Distractions: Texting, talking on the phone, and other distractions can result in serious injuries for bicycle riders.
- Right-hand turns: Bicycle accidents can occur when motorists turn right while in the bicycle lane. Before turning, drivers should check the bike lane first to avoid injuring cyclists.
Investigations of Bicycle Accidents
A client’s claim for financial compensation after a Sacramento highway crash may be supported by evidence uncovered during an investigation. Investigators are sent to the scene of the accident immediately to interview witnesses and verify that no mistakes have been made in the police report. In addition to gathering evidence from traffic cameras, investigators also look for violations of the three-foot rule and footage from traffic cameras.
Our injury lawyers build a robust case to support the compensation claims of our clients after taking possession of the evidence. Other losses you suffered, such as medical expenses, lost wages and lost earning capacity, may be compensated.
