Sacramento Highway Ramp Accident During Rush Hour
A Sacramento highway ramp accident happened during the evening rush hour on February 20 that resulted in the hospitalization of one person. The collision happened along the U.S. 50 eastbound ramp leading to southbound Route 99 at around 5:00 p.m. when a Honda and Saturn collided. Confusion added to the scene when another traffic collision occurred at the same location. According to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Sacramento Fire Department was called to the scene of the accident and blocked the number two lane while carrying out their duties. A tow truck was required to remove the Saturn due to heavy damage. One individual was reported as injured in the crash, however, no information was released on the extent of injuries or identity of that individual.
Accidents on or Near Freeways
Accidents are common on or near ramps along the freeway. Because of the high speeds vehicles are traveling when trying to exit, it can increase the risk of a Sacramento highway ramp accident. About 50 percent of crashes occur when exiting a freeway, while 30 percent happen when a vehicle is accessing the on-ramp. The remainder are caused at connectors or along other access roads. The following types of accidents were found to be the most common:
- Exit ramps: Run-off road accidents were most commonly associated with exit ramps. These types of crashes may be associated with excess speed while taking the ramp or going around curves and can cause a rollover in some vehicles.
- Entrance ramps: Rear-end collisions and sideswipes were commonly associated with entrance ramp accidents. These may be related to speed or with narrow lanes that do not offer enough space for vehicles to safely pass each other. A Sacramento highway ramp accident of this type often occurs when driving after dark, in adverse weather conditions or along curves.
- Ramp entrances or exits: These types of collisions usually involve a sideswipe or cut off. They are frequently associated with a vehicle merging onto the highway and crashing into another vehicle or large truck. Heavy traffic congestion is often a factor in this type of accident. Alcohol is a factor in 14 percent of entrance ramp accidents.
Steps to Take Following a Car Accident Injury Presented by Attorney Ed Smith:
Placing Fault in a Ramp Accident
Because these types of collisions often include several vehicles, a Sacramento highway ramp accident can be difficult in assigning fault. An experienced car accident lawyer can help by dealing with the insurance company to obtain the personal injury compensation you need. If an agreement cannot be met, the lawyer may conduct an investigation to provide proof that your injuries and resultant expenses were caused by the other driver’s negligence. Instead of having to bear the brunt of the costs for lost wages, medical expenses and your pain and suffering, I believe a negligent driver must pay for those losses. By using expert witnesses, accident reconstruction and ensuring that the police report is correct, along with other techniques, you can concentrate on getting well without the worry of debt due to your accident.
