Motorist in Sacramento Hits Two Vehicles and Flees the Scene
A hit and run accident in Sacramento on June 10 caused injuries to at least one person. The collision occurred around 11:15 in the morning along southbound State Route 99 and the East Florin Road exit ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Honda Civic and a Scion were both hit by the other motorist, who then fled the scene. One of the people whose vehicle was struck complained of pain to their head. However, they refused to be transported to a nearby hospital by emergency responders. The CHP did not release information on the hit and run driver but is investigating to gather evidence.
Hit and Run Drivers
Hit and runs are becoming more common in the Sacramento area. These types of accidents cause many injuries each year, as well as fatalities. The CHP reported that there were over 10 instances of fleeing driver accidents daily in Sacramento County in 2019. That amounts to 3,835 collisions. Injuries totaled 1,293 and 13 people died. This is why an experienced hit and run accident lawyer is necessary to both help locate the offender and to help the injured person obtain the compensation they deserve.
Locating the Driver After a Hit and Run Accident
My law office has a good record of locating the driver following a hit and run accident because we have the experience, know-how, and resources to follow through. By collecting all the evidence to support an injured person’s case, the driver can be found in many instances. Our investigators conduct the following research, which includes:
- Interviewing witnesses to the accident
- Reviewing the report by the police to determine if any inaccuracies are included
- Performing accident reconstruction, which forensically demonstrates the positioning of the vehicles before the hit and run accident occurred as well as afterward and how it happened
- Looking for evidence such as pieces of metal that dropped and paint smears that can help determine the make and model of the offending motor vehicle
- Checking business and traffic surveillance cameras that may have caught the hit and run accident on videotape
- Checking for road debris and marks left by the driver in the hit and run accident such as tire tread marks that can indicate the type of tires and perhaps the age of the vehicle
- Determining if government negligence contributed to the crash such as a non-functioning traffic light, potholes or poor design
Once all the evidence is compiled, our experienced lawyers use it to construct a case to support our client’s claim. Whether it is used to handle negotiations with the insurance company to obtain compensation for the client or is taken to court, I am at your side all the way.
Using Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
In the unlucky event that the driver cannot be located following a hit and run accident, there is another option available to obtain compensation. The expenses for the injury are covered under uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. It covers both the policyholder and anyone who is a passenger. If the injured person does not carry this insurance, which is offered as an option, then if another household member has coverage, that can be used. It will not affect the insurance rate.
