Two-Vehicle Accident Occurs on 44th Street
An intersection accident in Sacramento on July 7 caused an injury to one person following a two-vehicle crash. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision occurred in the Lemon Hill area around 9:00 a.m. along 44th Avenue at the intersection with Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The accident involved an older Chevy sedan and a Nissan, and one of the vehicles ended up on the sidewalk.
Intersection Accident Being Investigated to Determine Fault
One individual complained of pain following the collision, and the Sacramento Fire Department first responders arrived to check out that person. Tow trucks had to remove both vehicles due to damage. An investigation into the cause of the accident is being conducted by the CHP.
Causes of a Two-Vehicle Intersection Accident
The latest statistics show that more than 50 percent of all collisions are intersection crashes. It’s easy to see why. Traffic is converging from multiple directions, and passage through an intersection is compounded by the presence of motorcyclists, bicycle riders, and pedestrians. Unless everything runs like clockwork and everyone obeys the traffic laws and proceeds cautiously, it’s easy for an intersection accident to happen. Some of the most common causes of an accident at a crossroads include:
- Speeding can lead to an accident at an intersection because the driver either doesn’t have enough time to stop before reaching the crosswalk or is speeding through a yellow light before it turns.
- Distracted driving is another major cause of accidents of all types. A driver who is texting, chatting on their cell phone, looking at the GPS or anything else that takes their eyes off the road is a danger to others. It only takes a few seconds to cause an accident.
- Drunk or drugged drivers have always been a danger to others sharing the roadway. Someone who is intoxicated exhibits poor judgment, cannot judge distances, and has problems focusing.
Ways that Intersection Accidents Occur
Although there are many ways an intersection accident can happen, the following are the major reasons:
- Running a red light or stop sign is a major reason for an intersection crash. Since there are often motorists passing through the intersection at the time or pedestrians and bicycle riders crossing, it often causes a serious accident.
- Tailgating means that a vehicle waiting at the crosswalk for the light to turn can get rear-ended.
- Making a risky right turn without a clear view of oncoming traffic can lead to an accident. These commonly occur because the impatient driver’s view is blocked by vehicles to the left.
- Making an illegal U-turn can result in an intersection accident because it is an unexpected maneuver that shouldn’t be made.
- Turning left after the arrow has turned red causes many accidents because traffic from ahead has already started moving. In addition, some drivers attempt to change lanes during a turn, which can sideswipe another car.
