Sacramento Intersection Collision
On January 16, a Sacramento intersection collision occurred between two vehicles at Stockton Boulevard and 65th Street in the Florin area. It happened at about 9:10 in the evening between a Mazda sedan and Ford Explorer. The driver of the SUV pulled into the parking lot at the Shell station on 65th Street, where first responders found one individual unresponsive. That person was transported to a local hospital, according to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). No further information has been released on the condition of the woman. The accident will be investigated by the CHP to determine the cause.
Intersection Collisions Are Common
Details on how the above accident happened were not provided as of the time of this report. However, intersections are where about 40 percent of all traffic collisions happen. Some of the ways in which a Sacramento intersection collision can occur include:
- The driver runs a red light. While some of these may be intentional and constitute reckless driving, others are caused by a driver trying to “beat” a red light by driving through it while it is still yellow. Unless the light has just turned yellow so the driver knows they can pass through the intersection safely, this is a dangerous practice.
- The driver makes a turn that is illegal. Many times, a Sacramento intersection collision can occur when a driver is moving out into traffic and starts making a turn when there are oncoming vehicles. By misjudging the distance of oncoming traffic, the driver can become involved in a T-bone or a head-on collision.
- The driver changes lanes while in a turn. Drivers should never attempt to change lanes while in the process of turning. This can result in a sideswipe accident. Waiting until the turn has been completed makes it safer to change lanes.
- Distracted drivers may be talking on a cell phone or texting. Inattention to the surrounding traffic can lead to a Sacramento intersection collision.
- Drunk driving contributes to many accidents, including at intersections. According to the American Automobile Association, most drunk driving fatalities occur on weekends, particularly between the hours of midnight and 3:00 a.m.
Help in a Sacramento Intersection Collision
Injuries in an intersection accident can be severe and harm the family’s financial situation because of medical bills, missed time from work and other expenses. An injury lawyer experienced in intersection accidents can examine the evidence, review video camera footage if it is available, talk to witnesses and perform accident reconstruction if necessary. By conducting an intensive investigation, the lawyer can help by negotiating with the insurance company or by filing a case in civil court for compensation. In this way, the injured person can concentrate on recovering without the financial worry.
