Driver Flees on Foot From Auburn Boulevard Two-Vehicle Accident
A hit-and-run involving two vehicles in Sacramento on June 25 left one person injured as the other fled from the scene on foot. The crash happened just off the Cap City Freeway at eastbound Auburn Boulevard and Morse Avenue around 7:40 in the morning. The incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the two vehicles blocked eastbound Auburn Boulevard.
Hit-and-Run Driver Being Sought Following Intersection Collision
Tow trucks were required to remove the vehicles. The incident was reported as a fleeing driver involved in an injury accident since one of the motorists ran away from the accident scene. Sacramento Fire Department medics arrived to assess the injured party, however, the extent of those injuries was not provided. Investigators into the hit-and-run are determining how the accident happened and searching for the driver who fled.
Finding a Hit-and-Run Driver
Hit-and-run accidents are common these days because drivers think they can get away with leaving the accident scene and not be held responsible. However, our law office has a good record of locating fleeing drivers because we have the experience and means to do so. Investigation is important in locating one of these drivers, and our investigators perform the following tasks, among others:
- The police report is reviewed.
- The investigators interview any witnesses to the accident because they can often provide a description of the vehicle and driver. In some instances, one of the witnesses may have filmed the hit-and-run as it occurred.
- Accident reconstruction is performed, which shows how the vehicles were positioned before and after the hit-and-run. This type of evidence can point toward fault and is accepted both by insurance companies and in court.
- Photos are taken of the hit-and-run accident and a search made for paint smears and metal parts if the vehicle left the scene.
- Surveillance cameras are examined to see if the hit-and-run was captured on tape. If it was, it can be used to help identify the vehicle and driver.
Once the driver is located, their insurance company can be held responsible for accident injuries. It has been shown that using an injury lawyer to deal with the insurance company on your behalf results in a much higher settlement. Since injury attorneys work on a contingency basis, the party who suffered harm because of a negligent motorist or entity pays nothing until the case is won.
Using Insurance to Pay for Your Accident Injuries
If the driver cannot be located, there is another way the injured party can be compensated. When Californians first elect to take auto insurance, they are offered an uninsured/underinsured policy as an add-on. Many people opt in for this ad-on policy because of the high number of drivers who are either uninsured or underinsured.
Those who carry an uninsured/underinsured policy can use it to cover the cost of their accident expenses. If they didn’t opt for this policy and another household member has it, their policy coverage can be used. In addition, this type of policy covers the individual in car accidents as well as bicycle collisions or as a pedestrian. The use of this add-on policy does not affect the rates in the future.
