Motorcycle Crash at Hurley Way Intersection

A motorcycle crash with a vehicle caused an injury in an accident in Sacramento on March 8. The crash occurred at the intersection of Hurley Way and Morse Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area around 5:26 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the motorcyclist was transported to UC Davis Hospital with what was thought as minor injuries. The collision is being investigated to determine what happened to cause it and place fault.

Motorcycle Riders Sometimes Face Unfair Treatment

Motorcycle accidents with a motor vehicle often cause severe injuries. Although an insurance company will offer a low settlement, a rider may feel pressured to take it because medical bills and lost wages are mounting. Unfortunately, if the rider accepts a settlement for their claim too soon, they may find that they still owe those mounting medical costs and cannot return to work.

Countering Arguments Made by Insurance Companies After a Motorcycle Crash

At our law office, we know all the ruses and tricks that insurance companies use to avoid paying out a fair settlement. We know how to counter the arguments and obtain fair compensation for a motorcyclist after an injury accident.

So many motorcycle claims have been successfully handled by my firm that I released a book on Amazon titled The California Motorcycle Accident Handbook. A rider can read it for free online, and it answers questions that are commonly asked after a riding accident.

Motorcycles and Motor Vehicles: Some Common Causes of Collisions

Even though most motorcycle riders fear hitting a motor vehicle because they know how devastating it can be, there are times when accidents are unavoidable. A motorcycle accident mostly occurs because of the following types of negligence on the part of drivers:

  • Texting, changing radio stations, or any other distraction can cause drivers to lose focus and result in motorcycle collisions.
  • A high number of motorcycle accidents are caused by speeding. A motorcycle accident can be deadly due to the longer stopping distance needed by a speeding driver.
  • Motorcycle riders can be thrown from their bikes as a result of reckless drivers who are tailgating or stop short in front of them. As a result, many motorcycle riders suffer multiple broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord trauma, and even death.
  • Motor vehicles collide with motorcycles most frequently when they turn in front of them. In addition to hitting a rider who may be crossing an intersection legally, a driver might turn left from a parking lot somewhere in the middle of the street. In some cases, the driver wants to beat the motorcyclist across. In others, they misjudge the speed and distance of the rider.
  • The risk of a motorcycle crash is very high when a drunk driver is in the area. Drunk drivers weave in and out of lanes and speed and slow down, making it difficult for motorcycle riders to avoid a collision if one is nearby.
  • Riders who are lane-splitting can suffer a motorcycle crash if a motorist suddenly decides to switch lanes. In some cases, the driver doesn’t check for a motorcyclist who is lane-splitting. In others, the driver doesn’t use their turn signal, which gives no warning to the rider.
