What Happened?

A report of a motorcycle accident sent police officers to the scene at 2:01 a.m. on Sunday, August 6. Upon their arrival, officers witnessed workers from a nearby hospital tending to the victims, both of whom were riding on the motorcycle. Employees from the Heritage Oaks Hospital were tending to an unresponsive victim when firefighters from Sacramento Metro Fire arrived at the scene. Responding firefighters pronounced both victims deceases at the scene.

We extend our deep condolences to the family and friends of the two individuals killed in this tragic crash.

Accident Investigation

The investigation into the accident is ongoing and police did not say if drugs or alcohol played a role. The coroner’s office in Sacramento County identified the two victims as Bobby Potts, 41, and Cathrin Nevin, 39. Both victims were from Olivehurst. Employees from Heritage Oaks Hospital made it to the scene so quickly because State Route 244 ends at the hospital’s parking lot.

Early information from the investigation of the accident shows that speed may have been a factor in the fatal accident. Police believe that the motorcycle was traveling east on State Route 244, which is a short road that connects Auburn Boulevard and Interstate 80. Police think the motorcycle approached the intersection at a high rate of speed, causing the driver to lose control when he attempted to stop the bike. The motorcycle’s brakes locked up and then skidded into the hospital’s parking lot, hitting a tree. Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle, causing their fatal injuries.

The Sacramento Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the accident contact their dispatch center as soon as possible.
