Sacramento Multiple-Vehicle Accident Causes Injuries

A multiple-vehicle accident in Sacramento along Interstate 5 southbound occurred on November 30. It resulted in an injured person being transported to a local hospital. The accident happened around 5:00 in the afternoon just south of J Street, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and involved four vehicles. It was reported that the fourth vehicle, which had both front and rear-end damage, continued on and exited the highway at Q Street. The other vehicles involved in the collision were a Nissan Sentra, a 2005 Dodge Dakota, and a Ford truck. The accident occurred in the number two lane and blocked the third lane while tow trucks arrived to remove at least two of them from the accident scene. The injured person was transported by medical personnel to Mercy General Hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

Hit and Run Accidents

Hit and run crashes happen in single and multiple-vehicle accidents. Determining fault after a vehicle leaves the scene can be problematic. However, whether or not the driver was responsible for the crash, they still committed an illegal act and could be arrested for it. Hit and run accidents are labeled either a felony or a misdemeanor, depending on whether someone was gravely injured or died. A crash where the driver fled the scene of a multiple-vehicle accident causing only property damage is not a felony.

Multiple-Vehicle Accidents and Fault

It is challenging to determine fault in a multiple-vehicle accident. Part of the problem is the number of vehicles involved. An injury law firm with experience in determining liability uses investigative techniques that aid in this determination. In addition, the firm has the ability to bring experts in to help with finding the cause of the accident.

Who Pays for a Hit and Run Accident?

Clients often worry about who will pay for a hit and run accident if the fleeing driver is not found. In California, it is possible to use uninsured motorist (UM) protection many people have attached to their car insurance. Insurers are obligated to offer this to clients, and they must sign a waiver if they do not want it. It covers everyone in the family, whether they are driving, cycling, or walking. If an injured party does not have it, they can still use the insurance policy of a family member living with them who carries UM coverage. There is no increase in the premium when uninsured motorist insurance is used.

What an Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

Our firm has experience in both multiple-vehicle and hit and run accidents and is adept at identifying who was at fault. To accomplish this, we dispatch our investigative team to the site of the accident to look for evidence as to how the crash happened. Investigators also canvass the neighborhood for information about the hit and run driver in order to help police apprehend them. Our investigators interview witnesses, obtain videos from traffic surveillance cameras and local businesses and review the accuracy of police reports. When this information is gathered, they turn the data over to our legal team to use when they structure a case favorable to our client.
