Sacramento Multiple Vehicle Crash
A Sacramento multiple vehicle crash happened during the morning rush hour traffic along State Route 99 southbound on December 5 and resulted in injuries to one of the people involved. It also caused a significant traffic hazard. An ambulance was called to the crash site for at least one injured party; however, no word has been released on the extent of harm or the specific type of injury that person suffered. According to a report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the HOV lane, second lane, center divide and right-hand side of the highway were blocked by the collision. The CHP will be conducting an investigation into the Sacramento multiple vehicle crash to determine and assign fault. Further investigation will also center on the possibility that alcohol or drugs were involved.
Sacramento Multiple Vehicle Crash Details
The crash occurred just north of the 47th Avenue east off-ramp shortly after 8:30 in the morning. It involved a tan colored Acura, which ended up in the HOV lane, a pickup truck with a trailer that came to rest in the second lane and two additional vehicles. While airbags were reported as having deployed in the Acura, no information was released on the other three vehicles except that the force of the collision caused a broken axle in one vehicle.
Reasons That a Sacramento Multiple Vehicle Crash Can Occur
Although there are many scenarios in which a driver can be negligent and cause a car accident, the following are among the most common:
- Intoxicated drivers
- Speeding
- Not adjusting speed and driving techniques in dangerous weather conditions
- Changing lanes erratically or without signaling
- Drowsy drivers
- Driving aggressively, which can include speeding, tailgating, cutting in and out of traffic and endangering others
Liability in a Sacramento Multiple Vehicle Crash
As one of the most complex types of motor vehicle accidents, it takes experience to be able to determine how a collision happened, in what order the vehicles struck each other and who is to blame. This is important since California is a comparative fault state. In comparative negligence states, the fault can be assigned to any individuals who were negligent, and that percentage is deducted from the compensation they can receive.
Example of Comparative Fault in a Sacramento Multiple Vehicle Crash
For example, let’s assume a driver decides to change lanes without using a turn signal and crashes into the vehicle in the other lane. The driver of that second vehicle is speeding at the same time. The first driver is assigned 60 percent of the fault in the collision. The second driver is assigned 40 percent. That means the first driver can collect 40 percent of the compensation, and the second driver can obtain 60 percent in a personal injury lawsuit.

Using a Personal Injury Law Firm to Obtain Compensation
In accidents that involve multiple vehicles, it is important to consult with an attorney who is experienced. The attorney has the financial resources to conduct his or her own investigation into the accident and is able to use expert witnesses, crash reconstruction and other techniques to build a strong case for compensation. Although blame for the accident may be shared, this enables the injured person to obtain compensation to cover personal injury damages such as medical bills, time lost from work and the pain and suffering caused by the crash.
