Highway 50 Off-Ramp Accident Reported When Vehicle Exits Road
A driver was injured in Sacramento on February 4 when his vehicle exited Howe Avenue initiating an off-ramp and crashing below into a building. The collision occurred along Highway 50, according to authorities with the Sacramento Fire Department. According to their incident report, the driver’s vehicle exited the freeway off-ramp, fell around 20 feet and crashed.
Injured Driver Exits Vehicle on Their Own
The vehicle ended up on its wheels, and although the driver was injured and taken to a hospital, they were able to exit the vehicle and walk away on their own. No passengers were present in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and the extent of injuries to the driver was not reported.
An Overview of the Causes of an Off-Ramp Accident
Most of the time, an off-ramp accident is the result of driver error. Speeding is a common cause. However, distracted or drunk driving, changing lanes while on a ramp and other types of negligence can lead to the vehicle exiting the roadway. Accidents can also have causes other than driver error.
Problems With Roadway Maintenance
Poor road maintenance, for example, can cause an off-ramp accident. Injuries caused by accidents may be due to error by the government entity responsible for maintenance. A good idea would be to hire an accident attorney since the deadline for filing this type of claim is just six months.
Auto Defects in an Off-Ramp Accident
These types of accidents can also be caused by defects in auto parts, such as tires, braking systems or steering. If you have been in an accident, you should hold onto the vehicle for an engineer to examine it for defects. Auto product liability claims can be filed against the manufacturer and others if a defective part caused the off-ramp accident.
Obtaining Compensation Through Filing a Personal Injury Claim
The results of serious injuries can include hospitalization and high medical expenses. Medical expenses are not the only cost the injured party may incur. They may have to miss work and take paid sick time or vacation leave. A person’s injury caused by someone else can be traumatic enough, they shouldn’t have to bear the expenses also. In a personal injury case, you may be able to recover damages such as:
- Medical: In addition to hospital stays, doctors’ bills and physical therapy costs, you may be able to recover all other medical expenses related to the accident. In order to avoid financial burdens associated with recovering from an accident, a personal injury lawyer can help you gather and recover all these costs.
- Wages: In the event of an inability to work, wages can be recouped. Depending on the severity of your injury, you may have to take a lesser-paying job or become permanently disabled. In your settlement, you will be reimbursed for these losses.
- Pain and suffering: In addition to physical pain, you may also suffer from emotional and psychological problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Physical and emotional trauma can be compensated for, as well as PTSD treatment.
