Recoverable Damages in a California Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Several types of damages may be recovered in a California wrongful death lawsuit, including:
- Loss of guidance, advice, love, protection, and moral support may be claimed by the surviving family after the death of a loved one.
- A surviving spouse can claim the loss of consortium as part of the damages.
- Burial and funeral expenses incurred due to the death can be recovered.
- Wages, pensions, and insurance benefits the deceased would have earned up to retirement age may also be compensated.
- The value of household services previously provided by the deceased can be recouped.
