Accident on 47th Street Injures Driver of Ice Cream Truck

A traffic collision with injuries occurred in Sacramento on March 5 when a hit-and-run driver struck several vehicles and a truck. The accident happened shortly before 2:00 in the afternoon along 47th Street between 50th Avenue and Underwood Way. A report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the suspect vehicle was a BMW driven by a male who had two female passengers along.

Further Information About the Sacramento Traffic Collision

The BMW allegedly struck an ice cream truck and two other parked vehicles and then fled the scene. According to the report, the driver of the ice cream truck was injured when they were thrown into the windshield as a result of the traffic collision. A tow truck had to be called to remove the vehicle while Sacramento Fire Department first responders assessed the injuries of the ice cream truck driver.

Authorities Seeking Hit-and-Run Driver in Traffic Collision

The CHP has the license plate number of the car that reportedly caused the Sacramento traffic collision. Authorities are seeking to identify the fleeing driver. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Causes of a Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision

The American Automobile Association reports that around 11 percent of all traffic accidents involve a hit-and-run driver. There are a number of reasons that a driver flees the scene of a Sacramento traffic collision, including:

  • The driver either has no license, or it is has been revoked or suspended.
  • The fleeing motorist has been drinking or using drugs. These drivers often turn themselves in when they are sober or the drug has worn off.
  • The driver lacks auto insurance, which is mandatory in California.
  • They have outstanding tickets, or a warrant is out for them.
  • The driver panics and flees the scene.

Since a hit-and-run driver can face serious penalties for fleeing the scene of a Sacramento traffic collision, including heavy fines and a felony charge, they bet on not being identified and caught. However, my law firm has an excellent record of locating fleeing drivers, so our clients will be able to obtain the compensation they deserve.

Advice Following a Traffic Accident

When injuries are suffered in a Sacramento traffic collision caused by another entity or driver, the person faces financial harm in addition. Mounting medical bills, lost wages, and the pain and suffering can be claimed in a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party. Over the many years my law office has been working, we’ve successfully handled many such claims either through the insurance company or by taking the case to court when necessary. Making that free phone call to find out if you think you have a personal injury claim and have your questions answered is a good start.

Investigation of a Hit-and-Run

Our investigators are highly experienced in collecting the evidence needed to support a client’s claim. If the fleeing driver is located, a claim can be made against them or their insurance company. The investigators locate the driver by gathering the evidence to do so, including traffic surveillance cameras, forensic reconstruction of the accident, and interviewing witnesses who may recall the license plate number or captured the crash on their cell phones.

Recovering Damages Through Insurance

If a fleeing driver is not located, the injured person’s uninsured/underinsured insurance policy can cover the cost of their injuries. If the injured client does not have this insurance and another person in their household does, that can be used without penalty. The rates will not be affected.
