Accident at Gerber Road Intersection in Florin Area Causes an Injury

A traffic crash involving three vehicles occurred in Sacramento on October 20 that sent one person to the hospital. The accident happened in the Florin area along eastbound Gerber Road at Wilbur Way around 11:50 a.m., according to the collision report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It involved a Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and Mitsubishi Eclipse, all blocking the eastbound lanes.

One Patient Transported to Hospital With Traffic Crash Injury

A minor injury was reported, and that party was transported by medics with the Sacramento Fire Department to Kaiser South Sacramento Medical Center on Bruceville Road for additional evaluation. CHP investigators are examining the scene of the traffic crash to determine which driver/drivers were at fault and how it occurred.

Traffic Accidents Can Have Delayed Symptom Injuries

Any time someone is involved in a traffic crash it’s a good idea to head to your local physician or emergency room to get checked out. This not only gives the attending physician a chance to see if any injuries occurred that are not obvious, but it documents that you were in a collision. Not seeing a physician can make it more difficult to place an injury claim later, and some types of trauma may not be apparent for hours, days or even weeks later. Some symptoms that can indicate a serious injury that arise later include:

  • Headaches: A headache that is persistent or gets worse with time may indicate a traumatic brain injury. Concussions or a more severe injury may include headache, nausea, confusion, problems with memory, sleeplessness and more. These are definitely symptoms that should be checked out because they could indicate a serious problem.
  • Pain and stiffness in the back: Nagging back pain that radiates down the legs can indicate a pinched nerve, ruptured disc or other serious problems. Without treatment, this type of trauma may worsen, making it difficult to sit comfortably, stand or walk.
  • Neck and shoulder pain: When pain and stiffness occur in the neck area following a traffic collision, it may indicate cervical strain or sprain, known as whiplash. Despite jokes in movies about whiplash, it can be a persistent and debilitating condition.
  • Pain in the abdomen: When pain and bruising appear on the abdomen, it can indicate internal bleeding or damage to an organ. This is a life-threatening situation that often requires emergency surgery.
  • Psychological and emotional issues: A surprising number of people suffer psychological and emotional issues following a traffic crash. These can include nightmares, sleeplessness, anxiety, flashbacks, and depression. In extreme cases, it may lead to post-traumatic stress disorder, which can require professional treatment.
  • Tingling and numbness: When these symptoms appear in any part of the body following a traffic crash, it can indicate a problem. Cervical strain or sprain, injury to the spinal cord, a blood clot, TBI or other types of trauma may be involved and require medical assessment.

When delayed symptoms arise following a traffic accident, an injury lawyer can help the injured party obtain fair compensation from the negligent driver or other entity. Compensation can include coverage of all medical bills, lost wages, and financial recovery for the pain and suffering the injured party experienced.
