Two People Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 99
On August 10, a two-vehicle crash in the Lemon Hill area of Sacramento sent two people to the hospital. The accident happened between a Chevy Malibu and Nissan around 7:17 in the morning on State Route 99 northbound. As reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), it occurred just south of the Martin Luther King, Jr. exit ramp. The accident is under investigation by the CHP to find out how it happened.
Additional Information About the Two-Vehicle Crash
It was reported that the collision blocked the HOV lane, and debris from the accident caused an additional crash on the southbound side of the highway. Tow trucks were required to remove the damaged vehicles. Emergency responders transported one person to Sutter Medical Center and the other to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center. Their conditions were not reported.
Types of Two-Vehicle Crashes
Two-vehicle crash injuries are varied, depending on the type of accident that is involved. The most common are:
- T-bone accidents: This type of accident, also called a side-impact or broadside crash, often precipitates traumatic injuries or deaths. Once the vehicle is broadsided, it may spin directly into adjacent lanes and traffic. This results in the vehicle being hit multiple times. Because the airbags may have deployed in the initial strike, secondary strikes leave the driver/passenger unprotected. In addition, the side panels of a car or light truck are less protected than the front or rear of the vehicle. This leaves the occupants at a greater risk of traumatic injuries.
- Two-vehicle rear-end crash: This is the most common type of two-vehicle crash. It happens during stop and go traffic and at intersections. A rear-end crash usually happens when the lead vehicle slows suddenly or the vehicle to the rear is going too fast. Another cause is when the driver to the rear is distracted and unable to stop in time.
- Rollover accidents: Rollover accidents lead to many vehicular fatalities. This is often due to the manufacturer’s negligence in building a vehicle with sufficient infrastructure support to keep the weight of the vehicle from causing crush injuries.
Highway Accident Injury Compensation
A two-vehicle crash on a highway can occur in a number of ways. Most of them involve negligence by a driver. The problem is that at highway speeds, injuries can be more serious than in low-speed collisions. This can result in long hospitalization, potential surgeries, postoperative care and rehabilitation. In addition to the expense, the injured person is probably unable to work and losing wages.
By filing a personal injury claim, the injured person can recover all of their medical costs, including future expenses, their lost wages and be reimbursed for their pain and suffering. A Sacramento personal injury lawyer can handle a client’s case from start to finish, while they can focus on recovering from their injuries.
Evidence Is Needed to Support an Accident Injury Claim
To place a claim for damages following a two-vehicle crash, it has to be proven that the other driver was at fault. My law office has successfully handled many of these cases over the years. Evidence is key in proving a claim. Our team of investigators head to the crash site right away to gather evidence. This includes:
- The police report is checked for mistakes, and the investigators talk to the witnesses.
- They perform accident reconstruction and look for road and traffic surveillance cameras that may have captured the two-vehicle crash on film.
- The investigators look for negligence on the part of the other driver from drunk or distracted driving to reckless behavior and speeding.
- In addition, they look for signs of government neglect, such as overhanging limbs, weak or old guardrails, poor design, and others.
Our experienced lawyers use this information to build a case to obtain the financial compensation you need, whether from the insurance company or in court.
