Sacramento Woman Tracks Down Hit-and-Run Suspect
A woman from Natomas was involved in a rear-end collision in Sacramento during the morning of Monday, April 17, 2017. The motorist that rear-ended her vehicle fled from the scene moments after the crash. The woman never lost faith that she would later track down the hit-and-run motorist that struck her.
What Happened?
A Natomas woman was traveling along the Truxel Road bridge to merge onto westbound Interstate 80. The woman recalls that right when the light changed, the woman was struck from the rear by another vehicle. The woman and the other driver exited out of their vehicles and both decided to move out of the roadway. Once the woman pulled over to a safe location, the man driving the other vehicle drove off. The woman had a feeling that she would see the hit-and-run driver again. Thankfully, the woman did not have to wait long.

Woman Tracks Down Hit-and-Run Suspect
The woman spotted the same vehicle that rear-ended her car a few hours later near the same area. The woman followed the man into a shopping center. The woman then began taking pictures of the vehicle after the man got out of the car to go to the store to buy alcohol. The woman’s suspicions were confirmed once she discovered the front-end damage to the man’s car. The woman immediately contacted authorities and remained at the scene until officers arrived.
Authorities Detain Hit-and-Run Suspect
Officers from the Sacramento Police Department arrived about two hours later at the shopping center. When authorities confronted the hit-and-run suspect sleeping in his vehicle, the man was so impaired that he was unable to stand up on his own. The man, identified as 40-year-old Rajesh Kumar, was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of public intoxication.
Since Kumar was not driving at the time when police arrived, he was not charged with DUI. However, Kumar could face hit-and-run charges and DUI when the investigation is completed.
How to Handle Hit-and-Run Accidents
If you find yourself in a similar situation, authorities stated that the best thing to do is to obtain the license plate number and a description of the driver. Remember, it’s not safe to follow someone who attempts to flee. You may be getting yourself into a situation that turns violent.
