Samsung Replacement Phone Causes Flight Cancellation

Some customers were given the option to receive a full refund for their smartphone and others were given a replacement phone. A scary incident took place on a Southwest flight where a customer with a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 replacement phone caught on fire on board. This caused the flight to be cancelled and is now gaining worldwide attention again for this smartphone device defect.
What Happened?
A passenger of a Southwest flight turned off his phone and placed it in his pocket to be ready for the flight take-off. However, the passenger, Brian Green, heard a pop noise and observed smoke coming out of his clothing. Green, with no moment to spare, then took the phone out of his pocket and threw it on the ground. Green’s phone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, engulfed two rows of seats in smoke. For this reason, the flight had to be evacuated. Thankfully, no one was hurt and all the customers on the following flight were able to reach their destinations on other flights.
Phone Replacement Reports
The incident from above is not the first report of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s defect. A similar case in China was reported that the same phone caught on fire while charging. Several other consumers in South Korea have also made reports that the new replacement phones they received contain batteries that overheat and drain too quickly after use. In the month of September 2016, the Federal Aviation Administration banned the use of the smartphone device on domestic airlines to ensure the safety of all passengers.
