San Ramon Police Officer Crashes Motorcycle in Brentwood
A police officer from San Ramon County was traveling through East Contra Costa County when he got into a solo motorcycle crash on Thursday, April 26, 2018. It was half-past 5:00 a.m., and the officer was on his way to work when, for unknown reasons, he ran off the road and straight into a thick telephone pole. The crash occurred in an unincorporated region of Brentwood near Deer Valley Road and Marsh Creek Road. The officer sustained moderately severe injuries from the incident but appears to be recovering well.
First Responders Helping Those in Need
Around 5:30 a.m., East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) firefighters responded to an alert regarding a solo motorcycle accident on Deer Valley Road, just south of Chadbourne Road. The firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly located the police officer, who was found off-road by about 50 feet. After slamming into the telephone pole, the man had been thrown off his motorcycle and onto the grassy field.
Additional first-response medical care was provided by ambulance crews and firefighters from the California Department of Forestry. Together, first-response teams sent a request and established a location for a REACH medical helicopter to pick up the injured motorcyclist. Once the aircraft landed, the officer was flown to a nearby trauma center.
Investigating the Solo Accident
The investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently underway, although no significant updates on the nature of the crash have been revealed to the public. Drugs and alcohol do not seem to be involved in the collision.
The motorcyclist was said to be in good shape at a hospital, as he had already been cracking jokes and laughing with his visitors. Additionally, Captain Denton Carlson of the San Ramon Police Department has used the social media platform Twitter to announce his relief and gratitude for the first-response crews that offered a helping hand to the injured officer.
Driving a Motorcycle: Is it Worth the Risk?
There are many risk factors for driving any motor vehicle, but the increased risks of using a motorcycle are impossible to ignore. Some of the risks that motorcyclists have to deal with include little structural protection, a lack of stability, reduced visibility on the road, and life-threatening roadway hazards. These risk factors and unfavorable statistics prove the heightened dangers of driving around on a motorcycle. Ultimately, the decision is up to you whether the ride is worth the risk. Choose wisely!
