Santa Barbara County Fair Provides Fun for All
I’m Ed Smith, a Santa Barbara car accident lawyer. The Santa Barbara County Fair will be running from July 12 to 16 at the Santa Maria Fairpark for the 128th year and is expected to attract at least 140,000 people. The fair offers great entertainment for everyone of all ages, and I hope everyone has a good time and stays safe.
This Year’s Theme Days
From the livestock judging to quilts, jams and jellies and other contests, the Santa Barbara County Fair offers a variety of live entertainment and carnival rides, educational exhibits and food stalls. On the first day, Carnival Dollar Day, seniors only pay $8, and attendees can go to the 38 Special concert free of charge and ride the rides for $1 apiece. Day two is Senior Day with $1 admission tickets and a free concert to enjoy that features Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias. Day three is Agriculture and Cattlemen’s Day featuring country and western singer John Michael Montgomery in concert. Day four is Military and Law Enforcement Day and welcomes service members and members of their immediate family free. Entertainment will be by Leann Rimes. Sunday, the final day of the fair, is designated as Fiesta Day. Hispanic music idols will be supplying the entertainment for this final day.
Entertainment
In addition to the entertainment on the concert stage, there will be plenty for people of all ages to enjoy at this year’s fair. Adults and kids alike can enjoy watching the destruction derby and rodeo, and watch the judging of this year’s fair entries. Smaller kids can take a pony ride and go to the petting zoo to pet some of their favorite animals. General admission tickets cost $10, $8 for seniors who are 62 or over and kids six to 11. Children under 5 get free admission to the fair. Parking costs $7 at the fairgrounds.
Using Caution When Driving to the Fair
Because of heavy traffic in Santa Maria and along Highway 101 and the surrounding roads, drivers need to exercise extra caution to avoid traffic collisions along the way. The newest statistics for motor vehicle accidents from the California Office of Traffic Safety is from 2014. That year, Santa Barbara County was reported as having 2,510 injuries and deaths caused by collisions. If you are involved in an accident and you or a family member is injured through the negligence of another driver, it is a good idea to seek advice from an experienced attorney, who can help you defend your rights and seek fair compensation for your injuries.
Compensatory Damages
Compensatory damages refers to the compensation an injured person is awarded when they are injured in an accident caused by the negligence of another person or entity. Damages may be recovered for the current expenses and anticipated future expenses associated with the accident. These include:
- Medical and hospital expenses
- Income loss
- Loss of household or domestic services
- Lost future earnings
- Pain and suffering
- Out of pocket expenses
- Disfigurement
- Loss of consortium
- Punitive damages may be awarded if the injury was caused by a criminal act, such as being struck by a drunk driver.
