Seven People Injured in Rollover Crash in Sacramento
I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento rollover accident lawyer. During heavy traffic along the Capital City Freeway on Saturday, June 17, a multiple vehicle rollover crash injured seven people, several of them seriously. Lanes where the accident occurred were closed for a little over an hour while emergency personnel and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded.
What Happened?
A crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. along the freeway near the off-ramp for P street, according to a report by the Fire Department in Sacramento. A minimum of four vehicles were involved, including an SUV and a minivan. The SUV was found rolled over in the first lane, and the minivan was against the Capitol Avenue overpass guardrail. Allegedly, a car seat for a child was noticed inside the minivan. A CHP spokesperson reported that one person may have been ejected from a vehicle by the collision.
Accident Injuries in the Crash
Seven individuals were reported as injured as a result of the mutiple car accident, and three were reportedly injured seriously. A fire department representative said that all seven were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Multiple Vehicle Rollover Accidents
A careless moment, particularly at highway speeds, can result in a multiple vehicle rollover accident. When vehicles are traveling down the road closely together and one vehicle strikes another, the momentum can cause other vehicles to become involved in the crash, precipitating a rollover. Some of the causes of rollover accidents can be attributed to speeding, taking a turn too quickly and overcompensating or hitting a guardrail. Sometimes there can be a defect in the roof of a vehicle that can lead to a fatality if the roof crushes. For more information contact an experienced rollover accident lawyer.
Liability in a Motor Vehicle Accident
Since more than one driver may have caused injuries in a multiple vehicle rollover accident, it is important when seeking compensation to find a lawyer who has experience. For example, an injured victim who was struck from the rear may face further injury by vehicles that struck that vehicle in a chain reaction. In that case, the victim may be able to file for injury compensation from all the drivers behind his/her vehicle because all of them may have contributed to the injury. Because California is a pure comparative fault state, those injured in a pile-up leading to a rollover may be able to recover damages, even if they themselves were partially at fault.
