Shasta Crash Fatally Injures Reno Woman
On Saturday, November 16, 2019, a 40-year-old woman from Reno lost her life and a 2-year-old child was injured in a Shasta County auto accident. The crash only involved one vehicle, and California Highway Patrol (CHP) has confirmed that no other individuals suffered injuries during this tragic incident. Shasta County Sheriff’s Office personnel are currently withholding the decedent’s identity. Additionally, CHP is investigating possible causes of the collision.
Crash Details
According to police, the accident happened just after 10:00 a.m. on State Route 89 to the south of Doty Road in the area of Hat Creek. Reports indicate that the woman had been driving a silver-colored Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound approaching Doty Road. Her vehicle was traveling at unknown speeds when it veered right and drove off the road, colliding head-on with a large tree stump. The impact of the crash caused the Chevrolet to overturn twice. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on its wheels.
Response officials arriving at the collision site reported that the Reno woman had been ejected out of the vehicle through the driver’s side window. Medical responders indicated that they discovered her with a severe head injury and had her placed on an ambulance headed to the Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries while en route to the hospital. Responders reported that the young child was left with relatively minor injuries, including a chipped tooth and a laceration on the back of the head.
Investigation
As police continue to investigate what caused this accident, no reports have mentioned any possible factors. When a driver loses their life in a single-vehicle accident, investigators lose a major source of information about what may have happened. In many cases, accidents are caused by malfunctioning vehicle parts or dangerous roadway defects that can be difficult to notice during investigations. If these factors are overlooked, it can be difficult for families to claim the compensation that they deserve for their losses.
This is why it is important to reach out to a wrongful death lawyer who knows how to investigate an accident while prioritizing the rights of decedents and their families. A skilled lawyer will be able to find out whether or not any negligence was involved in the accident so that your family can receive the compensation that they deserve.
Vehicle Rollovers
Collisions that involve a rollover have a much higher fatality rate than other types of accidents. This is largely due to defective or unsafe auto products. In many cases, a vehicle roof isn’t strong enough to withstand an impact, or the vehicle’s airbags and seat belts don’t operate properly and leave the occupant with serious trauma that could have been prevented. In these cases, auto manufacturers can typically be held financially responsible.
