Single Vehicle Accident Fatality in South Sacramento
An accident fatality occurred on May 10 when a vehicle, traveling along a rural road in South Sacramento north of Galt, was involved in an accident. The accident happened just before 8:00 p.m. at Pellandini Road and Robson Road. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that an Acura had possibly hit a tree and was sideways blocking the road. First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the accident scene and began performing CPR. However, the driver of the vehicle died at the scene of the crash. No other persons were in the vehicle at the time. The name of the driver who died has not yet been released pending notification of the family by the coroner’s office. I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
Single Vehicle Crashes
Single vehicle accidents are a common cause of injuries and fatalities. Often, they occur along roads that the driver is familiar with. Some of the reasons an accident fatality can occur are:
- Drunk drivers: Driving while under the influence of alcohol commonly contributes to an accident resulting in a fatality. This is because the driver exhibits less coordination, poorer reflexes, and problems with judgment.
- Fatigue: Drivers who are sleepy can have difficulty concentrating on the task at hand. In extreme cases, they may fall asleep while driving.
- Roadway problems: Lack of adequate lighting, damaged pavement, and other causes may lead to an accident fatality. In these cases, the government entity in charge of maintenance may be held responsible for an accident fatality or injury.
- Drugged driving: Drugs, whether they are illegal or particular over-the-counter or prescription medications can cause drowsiness, a lack of ability to concentrate and poor judgment.
- Distracted driving: Remaining focused on the road is a real problem for some people. Texting and talking on their cell phone, fiddling with the radio or eating while driving are all forms of distraction.
- Aggressive driver: An aggressive driver may harass or taunt another motorist, going so far as to make threats. In extreme cases, an aggressive driver may force another motorist off the road, which can cause an accident fatality.
