Accident on I-5 Occurs When Vehicle Strikes Freeway Sign Pole
A single-vehicle collision in Elk Grove on January 31 occurred after the driver struck a freeway sign pole. The accident happened around 4:00 a.m. along northbound I-5 close to Laguna Boulevard. The vehicle was completely demolished, and the driver suffered major injuries, according to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Driver in Single-Vehicle Collision Suffers Major Injuries
Several lanes of traffic were blocked while the site was cleared and the remains of the vehicle hauled away on a flatbed truck. The traffic lanes were reopened around two hours later. No information was provided on which hospital the injured driver was taken to. The CHP is investigating to find out why the collision occurred.
Factors Contributing to Single-Vehicle Collision Injuries
A single-vehicle crash can occur for many reasons, but most of the time, the driver is at fault. In some cases, a single-vehicle accident can involve other factors that enable the injured driver to claim compensation for lost wages, medical expenses and pain and suffering. Among these factors are:
- Accidents involving just one vehicle can result from mechanical issues, but if the defect in the part caused the accident, the manufacturer, parts maker and others in the production line could be responsible. Bad brakes, steering that suddenly stops working, stuck accelerators and other problems can be caused by defective parts. It is recommended that people who are involved in an accident retain their vehicles instead of having them destroyed if the damage is extensive. This allows the vehicle to be examined by engineers for defects. An auto product liability lawsuit can be filed if a defect was found that caused the single-vehicle collision.
- Government entities are liable for damages resulting from poor road maintenance. Injuries suffered in a single-vehicle collision can be caused by malfunctioning traffic lights, inadequate overhead lighting at night, potholes, debris and other road conditions. The ability to file a lawsuit against a government entity, however, expires much sooner than those for other personal injury claims. Having an injury lawyer assist you with paperwork can ensure that it is completed correctly and filed on time. Also, a personal injury lawyer can help you obtain compensation by mediating the case.
- Solo-vehicle accidents can often be caused by hit-and-runs or aggressive drivers who flee the scene. There are many reasons why drivers flee. They might not have insurance or their license may have expired. Other people might simply panic. Aggressive drivers are plagued by anger issues that compromise their driving ability. They may engage in verbal exchanges with other motorists or tailgate, weaving in and out of traffic. In some cases, a driver may act aggressively or have road rage, causing a single-vehicle accident if the motorist forces another car off the road. Having an injury attorney can help you determine what happened. An accident lawyer can investigate whether another driver caused the accident and track down that motorist so they can be held accountable.
