Single-Vehicle Crash on Riverside Boulevard Causes Two Fatalities
Two people died in a single-vehicle crash in the Sacramento Pocket area on May 7 after their car collided with a parked big rig. The crash happened along Riverside Boulevard near 43rd Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Sacramento Police Department officers arrived at the scene to find two critically injured people in the vehicle.
Investigation Being Conducted to Determine Cause of Single-Vehicle Crash
The two people in the vehicle were identified as Rudy Martin Almanza and Frances Marie Almanza, ages 66 and 61. Mr. Almanza was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident by personnel with the Sacramento Fire Department. The injured woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. The Major Collision Investigations Unit of the Sacramento Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.
Big Rig Safety Regulations
Big rigs are heavily regulated to try and keep the driver and others safe on the roadway. This includes when they are parked. Because of hours of service regulations, truckers can find themselves parked on the shoulder of a roadway, even though it is a violation. When parked, a semi must be equipped with side and reflex reflectors as well as parking lights to warn others. Failure to do so may make the driver liable for any accident injuries or fatalities.
A Loved One’s Death Caused by an Accident
An estate administrator or the immediate family may file a wrongful death lawsuit for damages if someone else’s negligence led to the demise of a loved one. Over the years, my firm has successfully handled many wrongful death cases, alleviating the financial burden families experience during a time of loss and grief. However, recoverable compensation depends on a number of factors, including the deceased’s wages and age. Compensatory damages may be obtained in the following areas:
- The decedent’s pension and insurance benefits as well as income earned by them, can be recovered until their retirement age.
- It is possible to recover funeral and burial expenses.
- In addition to damages for loss of love, consortium, and affection, the surviving spouse may also recover compensation for mental anguish.
- Compensation may be available to children who lost their parent’s nurturing, affection and parenting.
- The loss of inheritance can sometimes be recovered.
- The decedent’s loss of assistance in the household can be recouped. As a result, the family may now have to pay someone to perform such tasks as car care, childcare, tax preparation, gardening, etc.
Following are some tips to take into consideration when hiring a lawyer, as shown in the video below presented by wrongful death lawyer Ed Smith:
