Tire Blowout Causes Single-Vehicle Rollover on I-5

One person was injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident in Sacramento on August 7. The accident occurred when the driver of an SUV lost control after a tire blew out on northbound I-5 just south of Del Paso Road around 5:19 p.m. According to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the vehicle overturned onto its roof, and a female was left trapped inside.

More Information About the Single-Vehicle Rollover

Authorities were notified of the accident by the Ford vehicle emergency response system in the car. A tow truck was required to recover the vehicle, which was around 50 feet off the roadway. The driver was transported by first responders to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with unnamed injuries.

Auto Defects as the Cause of a Single-Vehicle Rollover

There are a number of issues involving vehicle defects that can result in rollovers. Some defects involve an auto part or vehicle that was manufactured with a defect. Others involve dangerous design. When a defect is found to have caused an accident, the injured person can place a product liability claim against the manufacturer, parts maker, car dealership, or middleman. Some defects that can cause a single-vehicle rollover include:

  • Defective tires: A blowout can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle, swerve into other vehicles, or experience a rollover. Tire blowouts can be caused by bad construction or design or those that have defective tread.
  • Electrical system problems: An electrical system malfunction can result in a single-vehicle rollover, especially in newer vehicles. Understanding what happened can be complicated and involve software, so having a seasoned personal injury accident lawyer in Sacramento to help determine what happened is important.
  • Steering defects: A steering wheel that locks up can result in a rollover or even a multiple-vehicle accident. The ignition lock or lock pin can fail, or the power steering pump can suddenly go out. Since the driver loses the ability to steer, the vehicle is in danger of crashing.
  • Bad suspension: The suspension system minimizes the roll of a vehicle while it is turning. If it doesn’t do its job, a single-vehicle rollover can occur. SUVs, vans and other top-heavy vehicles are more likely to experience a rollover, although it can occur in any vehicle.
  • Defective brakes: Brakes that do not function properly can prevent the driver from controlling or stopping the vehicle. This can easily lead to an accident.

Roof Crush in a Rollover

Rollovers often result in severe injuries and fatalities. This is because once the airbags deploy initially, they deflate and offer no further protection to the passengers inside. In addition, some vehicles may experience roof crush. This increases the risk of traumatic brain or spinal injuries.

Roof Crush in a Rollover

Although manufacturers are held to a certain standard on the upper strength in a vehicle to protect its occupants from roof crush, not all of them comply. A Sacramento auto accident lawyer can help determine whether the manufacturer was in compliance and help a client obtain the compensation they deserve for their injuries.

Following a Single-Vehicle Rollover

There are many reasons a single-vehicle rollover can occur, and determining the cause is important when someone has been injured in this type of accident. Following a rollover, it is necessary to preserve the vehicle, so the investigators can see if a defect was the cause. Over the years, I’ve successfully handled many of these cases and can do the same for you.

Investigators in a Rollover Accident

Our investigators comb over the accident site to gather the evidence needed to support a client’s claim. This ranges from interviewing witnesses and checking for mistakes in the police report to performing accident reconstruction. They photograph the entire scene and vehicles and look for road and traffic surveillance cameras that may have captured the accident on film.

In addition, they look for signs of government negligence such as potholes, weak or aged guardrails and others. Our lawyers take the accumulated evidence to construct a strong case for compensation for our client.
