Solo Crash Fatally Injures Driver Near Vallejo
I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo personal injury lawyer. On the morning of Tuesday, April 25, 2017, the driver of a vehicle lost her life in a single-vehicle collision that took place on a highway on the outskirts of Vallejo and Benicia.
Accident Details
The collision was first reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). CHP received a call at about 10:56 a.m. indicating that a vehicle, specifically, a red four-door hatchback, had apparently overturned in an accident and was lying on the eastbound section of Highway 780 in an unincorporated area on the outer edges of both Benicia and Vallejo.
After receiving the report of the wrecked vehicle, CHP responded to the incident, sending officers to investigate the scene of the collision. When officers arrived, they immediately checked the wreckage to see if the driver and possible passengers of the vehicle had sustained serious injuries. Although officers found no other parties in the vehicle other than the driver, sadly that driver had died as a result of her injuries.
Traffic
When officers arrived at the site of the accident, they realized that the collision had left wreckage blocking all four eastbound lanes of Highway 780. CHP soon thereafter warned the public that an accident had occurred between Columbus Parkway and Glen Cove Road, that commuters on eastbound 780 should expect delays, and that the roadways were expected to reopen soon. At the time of reporting, the accident had not yet been completely cleared from the road.
Contributing Factors
CHP has not said whether or not they suspect driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs to have had any role in causing this accident, nor have they suggested any other possible causes as especially likely. Single-vehicle accidents happen often all over the country and have various causal factors. Some of the more common reasons that vehicles crash include; driving at dangerous speeds, driving while not paying attention to the road, defective roadway designs, driving while emotionally compromised, and defective parts from auto part manufacturers.
Staying Alert to Avoid Harm
One leading cause of car crashes that is particularly threatening to drivers today is distracted driving. Statistics show that the frequency of accidents caused by drivers who are not paying attention to the road is on the rise and has been for almost a decade. While one can not control the actions of other drivers in order to increase personal safety, trying to remain alert and driving with caution can help motorists to prevent accidents that might otherwise lead to serious injuries. While driving, it is important to minimize any activities that take one’s eyes off of the road, even if only for a moment.
