Driver Loses Control of Vehicle in Major Injury Accident
A solo vehicle accident in Elk Grove on February 14 caused a major injury. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) report said that a driver in a white sedan was proceeding west along Calvine Road when they lost control of the vehicle. The car overturned multiple times at around 1:43 p.m. at the intersection with Cliffcrest Drive. Emergency responders arrived to assess injuries, and one person was reported as having a major injury, but one that was not life-threatening. The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment and evaluation of their injuries. Both the westbound and eastbound lanes of Calvine Road were blocked for a time while the vehicle was cleared from the scene. The CHP is investigating to determine what precipitated the accident.
Rollover Accidents
Around 10,000 people each year die in rollover accidents, and they are responsible for a high rate of fatalities. An added danger is roof crush, which can result in severe spinal damage and traumatic brain injuries. Manufacturers are required to design vehicle roofs that can withstand 1.5 times the car’s weight in a rollover. If the roof of a vehicle does not meet those standards, the manufacturer can be held liable for injuries or fatalities.
Causes of a Solo Vehicle Accident
Although most accidents involving a solo vehicle are caused by driver error, other outside influences can result in a vehicle crashing. Some of these outside influences include:
- Aggressive drivers can tailgate or cut in and out of traffic, which endangers other motorists. In some instances, a vehicle may have to make an evasive maneuver to avoid a collision or even be forced off the road, which can result in a rollover.
- Debris in the roadway or damage such as a pothole or upheaval in the pavement can cause a single-vehicle accident when a car goes out of control. In these instances, the injured person may place a claim against the government entity that is in charge of maintenance and repairs. However, because the timeline for filing against a government entity is much shorter, getting help from an experienced lawyer is a good idea.
- A vehicle defect can lead to a solo vehicle accident. Tire blowouts, defective brakes, and problems with steering can all cause these types of accidents that involve only one vehicle. When defects cause an accident, the manufacturer and others may be held financially responsible.
- Motorists that cause a solo vehicle accident may be driving distracted, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or fell asleep at the wheel. Any time a driver has to make an emergency maneuver to prevent a crash, they risk being involved in a solo vehicle accident.
Seeking Help Following an Accident Injury
Those who are injured because of the negligence of another individual or entity are entitled to place a claim for compensation. This is meant to pay for the injured party’s medical costs, lost wages, and reimburse them for their pain and suffering. However, those filing a personal injury claim must prove that negligence was the cause of their accident injuries. This is why enlisting the aid of an experienced lawyer is important to obtain the compensation you deserve.
Investigation of the Accident
Our investigators go to the accident scene to collect evidence to support your claim. They talk to witnesses and go over the police report to check for inaccuracies. Following this, they perform accident reconstruction and look for cameras at traffic lights and nearby businesses because they might have captured the accident on tape. In addition, they look for road damage that might have caused a solo vehicle accident such as a pothole, upheaval in the pavement or debris. Once the evidence is gathered, our lawyers go to work to prove your case. The gathered evidence can be used as we negotiate for you with the insurance company or prepare a case for civil court.
