South Lake Tahoe Area Fatal Auto Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a South Lake Tahoe car accident lawyer. According to officials from California Highway Patrol (CHP), a head-on accident that occurred on State Route 267 left a man from Kings Beach with fatal injuries on Saturday, January 13, 2018. All of us at AutoAccident.com would like to express our condolences to the affected individuals.
Collision Details
Reports indicate that the collision occurred at around 7:00 a.m. just south of Truckee.
Christopher Anderson, a 35-year-old male resident of Kings Beach, had been driving a Subaru northbound on 267 at the same time that an Audi had been driving south on the same road. The Audi, allegedly driven by an individual under the influence of alcohol, reportedly crossed over the double yellow lines marking the median of the roadway.
After crossing over into oncoming traffic, officers say that the Audi sideswiped a Toyota SUV before it continued on a short distance into the northbound lane. Eventually, the Audi struck Anderson’s Subaru head-on.
Response and Injuries
CHP officers who responded to the accident identified the driver of the Audi as Edgar Delgado, a 21-year-old male resident of Tahoe Vista. Delgado was arrested at the accident scene on DUI charges before being released to emergency medical officials. Delgado was transported to the Reno Renown Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for traumatic injuries.
Anderson was declared dead at the site of the collision. Additionally, officers said that the driver of the sideswiped SUV did not receive any injuries.
Another Tragedy
Officer Pete Mann, the public info officer of Truckee Area CHP, spoke on the incident. Mann noted that this event marks “another tragic accident” that involved an area resident and occurred on a local highway. Mann added that this accident is an example of why no one should ever drive under the influence.
Mann also said that CHP is aware that “people are going to go out and have a good time” but that individuals should make “appropriate efforts” prior to doing so. Mann noted that those who think they may drink should take public transit, have a designated driver, or use a ride-sharing program.
Zero Tolerance
This collision happened just south of the location of another fatal collision that left a 62-year-old woman dead on December 30, 2017. After two fatal crashes in such a short amount of time, Truckee area CHP are instating a zero policy notice enforcement rule on Highway 267. This means that all infractions will receive tickets no matter how minor.
DUI and Wrongful Death
When a drunk driver causes the death of another individual, it is almost always considered a case of wrongful death. In the event of a wrongful death case, family members and people who relied on the deceased are able to receive payments for many different types of damages. A lawyer with experience will be able to make sure that you get the full amount of payment you deserve.
