South Lake Tahoe Crash Injures Two
I’m Ed Smith, a South Lake Tahoe car accident lawyer. An accident involving two vehicles occurred in South Lake Tahoe on the afternoon of Friday, February 9, 2018. The accident, unfortunately, caused two parties to be hospitalized for their sustained injuries.
We hope and pray for a speedy and full recovery for the two parties that suffered significant harm in this traumatizing accident.
Accident Details
Officials from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) reported that an auto accident had occurred at approximately 4:35 pm at the intersection of South Avenue and 4th Street outside the Barton Memorial Hospital. Photographs taken at the scene showed a red four-door sedan with major passenger side damage and a silver-colored SUV with front-end damage. These photos suggested that the crash was a broadside collision.
Emergency Extrication
Crews from the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to the scene to perform emergency extrication. Crews were prompted to use heavy extrication machinery in order to safely remove a passenger out of the red sedan. Both the two-year-old toddler that had been sitting in the passenger’s lap and the driver of the sedan were able to exit the vehicle without the aid of extrication equipment.
Reported Injuries
The passenger and the toddler of the red sedan, who had been reportedly unsecured at the time of the collision, were both transported to the Barton Memorial Hospital for treatment of traumatic injuries. The severity and nature of the injuries sustained have not yet been released to the public.
Broadside Collisions
Broadside collisions are particularly dangerous due to the point of impact. The area of the vehicle where damage is sustained offers little protection to vehicle occupants in the event of a crash. Those involved in broadside collisions are vulnerable to suffering a wide array of serious injuries including:
- Arm and Upper Extremity Injuries
- Bone Fractures
- Head and Brain Injuries
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
Broadside collisions have the potential to be catastrophic or even fatal in nature. Oftentimes, these accidents are caused by the negligence of drivers who attempt to rush through a yellow light or ignore a red light or stop sign. If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident involving a reckless driver, it is important to contact an experienced South Lake Tahoe car accident lawyer to secure fair compensation for your losses.
