Recall of Travel Mugs Numbers About 2.6 Million

Stanley has initiated a massive recall of travel mugs in the United States around 2.6 million, following numerous customer complaints, including reports of injuries and burns. The recall affects all Trigger Action and Switchback stainless steel travel mugs, which feature double-walled construction and come in various colors and sizes with polypropylene lids.

The Consumer Safety Product Commission (CSPC) announced the recall on Thursday, citing 91 global reports of lids coming off during use, causing 38 burn injuries. In the U.S. alone, 16 complaints were filed, with two burn injuries reported before the recall of travel mugs. Stanley’s iconic logo, a winged bear wearing a crown, appears on the front and bottom of the affected mugs. 

The company has identified a manufacturing flaw where the threads on the lids can shrink, possibly causing the lid to detach while in use.

The recall includes the following Stanley travel mug models:

• Switchback 12-ounce (20-01437)
• Switchback 16-ounce ( 20-01436, 20-02211)
• Trigger Action 12-ounce (20-02033, 20-02779, 20-02825)
• Trigger Action 16-ounce (20-02030, 20-02745, 20-02957)
• Trigger Action 20-ounce (20-02034, 20-02746)

The China-manufactured recall of travel mugs affects major retailers such as Walmart, Amazon.com, Target, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, both in-store and online, from June 2016 through December 2024. Prices ranged from $20 to $50, depending on the model.

Consumer Action and Replacement Process

The CSPC advises consumers to discontinue use immediately after the recall of travel mugs. Stanley offers a free replacement lid, including shipping, to affected customers. Consumers should visit Stanley Lid Recall to obtain a replacement and enter their product’s information. If the place of purchase is unknown, customers can enter “NA” in the relevant field.

Alternatively, Stanley has set up a dedicated phone line at 866-792-5445, operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, for consumers seeking assistance with the recall process.
