Intersection Accidents Are Often Caused by Negligent Drivers
There is an unfortunate and all too common phenomenon of bicyclists being involved in accidents at intersections. Motorist negligence is one of the most common causes of bicycle accidents, including:
- A bicycle accident is most often caused by running a red light or stop sign.
- It is impossible for the driver to slow down in time to avoid hitting a bicyclist because they are speeding.
- The driver is busy concentrating on other motor vehicles on the road and neglects to look for pedestrians or bicyclists.
- The driver makes an improper turn or doesn’t look for bicycle riders going through the intersection.
- An individual walking their bike on the crosswalk is denied the right of way by a motorist.
- The driver is talking on their cell phone, texting or committing other acts that distract them.
Bicycle Injury Crash Compensation
An injury lawyer can determine who is at fault for a bicycle injury accident by investigating. If it is found that the driver who struck the rider was negligent, the injured bicyclist has the right to recover compensation to recover the cost of their medical bills, lost income and for their pain and suffering. Some of the techniques an injury attorney uses to determine fault in a collision are as follows:
- The first step in an investigation is for investigators to go to the accident scene to recover and photograph any evidence that is found, such as tire marks or pieces of dropped metal.
- Next, the investigators will check for cameras in the area of the accident, such as at traffic lights or local businesses.
- Accident reconstruction can show how the collision occurred and help point toward fault.
- Witnesses to the bicycle injury accident may be able to explain how the collision occurred. In addition, many people these days capture an accident on their cell phones.
Once the evidence is gathered, our lawyers use it to construct a compelling case for our client to recover fair compensation.
