Stockton Church Accident
A man crashed his vehicle into a south Stockton church after attempting to flee from Stockton Police.
What Happened?
There was a probable domestic disturbance that attracted police to the area of South San Joaquin Street and East Fifth Street at approximately 9:20 pm. As the police investigated the area for any individuals who might have been involved in the incident, they discovered a male sitting in his car. After authorities contacted the male, he drove away from the scene. The police began to chase after the male’s vehicle while driving northbound on San Joaquin until they reached the cross street of East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The male motorist lost control of his vehicle, which caused him to crash into the gym of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church after coming into contact with a traffic light pole.
Stockton Police Department Reports
The vehicle’s motorist fleeing from Stockton Police was identified as 22-year-old Johnny Orlando. Orlando was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for major injuries that were later identified as non-life-threatening. Orlando was subsequently detained by police officers for resisting arrest, battery of an officer, and suspicion of felony evasion.
Stockton Church Crash Aftermath
A spokesperson from the church stated that the gym of the St. Mark’s United Church sustained cosmetic damage but did not report any structural damage. The gym is used weekly for basketball games and practices. The Western Farm Workers Association occupies the upper level of the gym. They have not reported any damage.
