Stockton Fatal Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton wrongful death lawyer. A motorist was driving in Stockton during the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 28, 2017. The driver was struck by a police cruiser, which sadly caused fatal injuries.
What Happened?
Two officers from the Stockton Police Department were driving together in a patrol SUV eastbound along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at approximately 2:00 am. The two officers received reports of gunshots fired along Wilson Way near the Crosstown Freeway. The officer driving the patrol vehicle turned on their lights and siren and drove towards the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Airport Way. As the two officers entered the intersection, their patrol car crashed into a black vehicle that entered the intersection traveling northbound along Airport Way. The impact of the collision caused serious damage to the front-end of the police SUV and propelled the other vehicle to tumble onto its side.
Were They Okay?
The two officers in the patrol vehicle suffered minor to moderate injuries and received treatment at the hospital. Sadly, the driver of the black vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital where he passed away several hours later.
Our condolences are with the loved ones of the victim that passed away in this tragic crash.
What Caused the Crash?
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Traffic Collision Reports usually take from seven to ten days to be processed. Traffic reports can sometimes be inconclusive or be in error pertaining to fault. It is crucial, especially when someone has passed away, to contact an experienced personal injury lawyer who can conduct their own investigation of the crash scene and study the sequence of events leading up to the accident to determine fault.
Crashes Involving Government Vehicles
When a person has been injured by a government entity vehicle due to no fault of their own, they have only 180 days or 6 months from the date of their injury to file a claim. There are also many other filing deadlines they must meet. It is best to contact an experienced personal injury lawyer for more information.
