Stockton Semi-Truck Collisions

I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton truck accident lawyer. The same circumstances that cause auto collisions also cause semi-truck collisions. The operator of a semi-truck, who cannot see due to poor visibility because of inclement weather conditions like fog and rain, can cause a semi-truck collision. Further, an operator of a semi-truck driving while intoxicated or on drugs is short of the sharp driving skills required to avoid a potentially catastrophic semi-truck collision.

Drowsy Driving

A problem that can plague operators of large commercial trucks is drowsy driving. Unexpectedly falling asleep behind the wheel can lead to a catastrophic semi-truck accident. Some truck drivers are on the road all day and all night risking their safety and the safety of other motorists. Federal regulations require truck drivers to log their hours on the road and limit the time that they can drive a truck. However, many commercial truck drivers have been caught with misleading and/or inaccurate records.

Improperly Loaded Trucks

Another typical issue with truckers is that they “overload” their vehicles. When a semi-truck has too much cargo on board, the truck sometimes cannot handle the weight. What you end up with is a a four-ton hunk of steel pummeling towards other motorists at high speeds. Big-rigs can also cause a catastrophic jack-knife accident if the driver loses control of the trailer.

Tow Truck Accidents

Similar to improperly loaded trucks, you should also take precaution when driving near a tow-truck. Tow-trucks pull another vehicle behind them, making it extremely dangerous should you get in a traffic collision with one of these vehicles.

Regardless of the cause, catastrophic injury or wrongful death are very likely in a truck accident.
