Suisun Accident Statistics
I’m Ed Smith, a Suisun car accident lawyer. Suisun is a charming, historic city located just east of the San Pablo Bay. Residents enjoy easy access to the Suisun Bay and Delta as well as an exciting city lifestyle. However, Suisun also has its share of motor vehicle accidents. Those who spend time on Suisun’s roadways may be interested in the accident statistics below.
Accidents by Type
According to data gathered by researchers at the University of California at Berkeley, the most common type of car accident that ended up causing harm in Suisun over the last four years has been, by far, rear-end collisions. In fact, rear-end collisions accounted for 40 percent of all injury accidents from 2013-2017. This means that rear-end collisions were more than twice as common as the second most frequent type, vehicle/pedestrian accidents, which made up 16.5 percent of all Suisun’s injury collisions.
After these two, the most frequent types of vehicle collisions that caused injuries in Suisun, from highest to lowest, have been; broadside accidents at 14.1 percent, overturned vehicle accidents at 9.4 percent, sideswipe accidents at 7.1 percent, head-on accidents at 4.7 percent, and overturned vehicle accidents at 3.5 percent.
Accidents by Severity
Car accidents in Suisun that involved fatal injuries over the past four years accounted for 4.7 percent of all accidents with an involved injury, making fatal injuries the least frequent type. After this, car accidents involving traumatic injuries considered to be severe by medical officials accounted for 8.2 percent. Accidents involving visible injuries that were not considered severe accounted for 24.7 percent, and accidents involving non-visible injuries indicated by a complaint of pain from an individual involved in the collision accounted for 62.4 percent.
Most Common Violations
Traffic violations are not always the cause of car accidents. However, they do significantly increase a driver’s risk of being involved in one. The most common violation to cause an accident in which somebody was hurt in Suisun over the last four years has overwhelmingly been speeding. Driving at unsafe speeds caused people to be hurt in accidents about four times more often than the next most common violation, improper turning.
The five most common types of injury-causing traffic violations in Suisun from 2013-2017 from most to least common have been; speeding violations at 48.2 percent of total violations that led to injuries, improper turning at 12.9 percent, automobile right of way violations at 7.1 percent, traffic sign violations at 5.9 percent, and driving on the wrong side of the road at 4.7 percent.
