Suisun Storms Cause Collision
I’m Ed Smith, a Suisun car accident lawyer. In Suisun, on Wednesday, February 21, 2016, a motorist was able to avoid injury after skidding their vehicle off of the road and into a ditch on the side of Railroad Avenue in Suisun.
Accident Details
The car accident occurred while local emergency service crews were preoccupied with other incidents that had occurred as a result of storms that have affected the area off and on for months. Sgt. Jeremy Crone from the Suisun City Police Department said that the rainy conditions played a role in the accident, but should not be considered the sole cause.
Crone indicated that it seemed likely that the driver had been driving his vehicle over the speed limit, noting that the vehicle, a two-door mini-coupe, had collided with a street sign and a wall outside of Almond Tree Storage before it skidded off of the road and into the ditch. Crone also noted that the ditch was not a drainage ditch, but a ditch made for the purpose of landscaping.
Response and Damages
Officers from the Suisun City Police Department who responded to the incident reported that no major injuries were received in the crash and that there was no major damage to either the vehicle or the structures that it collided with. The car, however, did receive minor damages as a result of the collision with the sign.
Hazardous Weather
Other recent accidents in Suisun City have also been partially caused by recent storms. The National Weather Service reported that a high wind warning was in effect in Fairfield and Suisun on Monday and Tuesday with gusts expected to reach 40 miles per hour during the day and increase to speeds as high as 65 miles per hour at night.
Sgt. Matt Bloesch of the Fairfield police department reported that none of the city’s roads had been closed so far due to the severe weather, saying, “overall, we’ve done pretty well.”
Rising Water
An indication of the recent severe weather is the rising level of nearby lakes. Dylan Dowe, a park ranger from Lake Berryessa said to reporters that the level of the lake has risen to 442 feet, high enough to reach some of the picnic tables at the edge of the lake. Dowe added that it has been more than ten years since the lake has been this high and due to seriousness weather conditions, officials have had to be extra wary about possible landslides and other hazards for drivers.
Driving in the Rain
Driving in the rain presents hazards to drivers and can reduce a driver’s ability to respond to rapidly changing traffic conditions of roadways. Often, accidents that could have otherwise been avoided are exacerbated by wet roadways and can lead to serious injury and, in some cases, even death. When driving in hazardous conditions always remember to slow down and be especially vigilant.
