Fatal Susanville Hit-and-Run
Police are reportedly searching for a missing driver after a Susanville hit-and-run crash that took place on Friday, January 17, 2020. The Susanville Police Department (SPD) reported that the crash left a 37-year-old woman with fatal trauma. County authorities have not yet released the identity of the decedent.
Crash Details
According to SPD, the accident happened at about 9:15 a.m. on the 1800 block of Main Street in Susanville. A pedestrian was walking in front of the local Sinclair gas station when she was struck by a vehicle. Accident witnesses told police that the vehicle may have been a dark-colored SUV. The vehicle reportedly did not stop following the collision and immediately drove away, heading east on Main Street.
Accident witnesses attempted to give aid to the injured pedestrian. Tragically, when medical responders arrived at the scene, they pronounced the pedestrian deceased.
Investigation
So far, officers have not been able to locate the vehicle. SPD reported that their investigators are looking over surveillance footage of the area as well as interviewing witnesses. SPD has asked that anyone who has information about the missing driver or vehicle get in touch with investigators by calling (530) 257-2171. Police added that any help with the investigation would be greatly appreciated.
Susanville Hit-and-Run Accidents
Hit-and-run accidents can be very stressful. Not only are families facing the tragedy of suddenly losing a loved one, but wondering whether or not the missing driver will be found can be difficult. Many people worry that, with no driver to hold liable, they will be unable to recover compensation for the damages that they have suffered.
However, wrongful death damages such as lost income, medical expenses, funeral costs, and more can often be claimed through insurance companies in the event of a hit-and-run accident. This is possible through “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage,” which is an optional part of insurance policies. Insurance issues can be complicated, and policies vary widely. Furthermore, insurers sometimes offer less money than they should. For these reasons, it’s important to have a wrongful death attorney who can help you claim the full amount that you deserve.
Finding a Quality Attorney
After losing somebody you love, it’s important to focus on spending time with your friends and family and processing your grief. The pain of sudden loss can be overwhelming, and dealing with even normal daily tasks can seem difficult. For these reasons, grieving people are often hesitant to reach out for legal help, especially if they don’t know how they can get in touch with a trustworthy lawyer.
Thankfully, there are a few ways that you can ensure your lawyer has the right experience, skills, and resources to effectively take on your case. For more information, check out this video:
